"Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress"
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? Cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, and instead, follow the data: In seventy-five jaw-dropping graphs, Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise. The writing skills are all over these pages, no question about it. The author makes everything she writes palpable for me, real in such a way that reading is just effortless cause yeah, I want to know what’s next, won’t stop for nothing. Maybe pizza. The pace is steady, nothing feels rush, no time goes by unaccounted for. Everything has its place.
I can almost taste Levi strong coffee order, the strength behind his self-control, his rage...
I can honestly say I’ve never gambled in my life. Never saw the point of it really. So to say that I understand the gambling disorder Dom suffers is to say too much. But I’ll tell you this, the way it’s described; the excruciating, vividly painful detail of it all? I could taste the hurt in my mouth. The actual, physical pain that Dom goes through when faced with temptation. How he stays away outta sheer fcking will and how that’s hurting him in so many other ways.
Talk about writing skills, no? Outstanding.
I feel the connection they have between them growing, slowly but undeterred. Deep, strong like this invisible force between them. The way they relate to each other is the best way they know how and works for them in a way it wouldn’t if it’d be anyone else. The strength they share cause they have each other, which allows them to be themselves when they are together... it all works for them. And for me.
It’s a thing of beauty. And a thing of hot, unadulterated passion. Yummy. And I’m all in, baby.
And right now, just moments after I'm done with this 2nd book? You know this is going to get fcking worse ♠️ before it gets any better.
And I can’t wait Ｏ(≧∇≦)Ｏ
I love the relationship between Levi & Dominic. They are so sexy together but the respect they have for one another is so nice to see. Levi has some major hangups and Dominic is so understanding. It goes both ways though because Levi is willing to do whatever he can to help Dominic deal with his gambling addiction.
I love a mystery within a mystery. On top of the Seven of Spades there is another murder Levi is investigating. This makes everything super tense. Will it tie into the Seven of Spades? Why doesn’t anyone except Dominic believe Levi when he says the Seven of Spades is still out there? The final pages of this book are breathtaking. I cannot even explain because I don’t want to ruin it. I was flipping through as fast as I could, devouring it but not wanting it to end.
The secondary characters are also so interesting. I especially love Carlos and Jasmine.
I cannot wait to continue this series.
It's been three months since the events that brought Levi and Dominic together. Three months since the Seven of Spades played the game and three months since Levi and Dominic found more in each other.
We start off seeing Levi and Dominic navigating the waters of their new relationship and get some hot sex. I love the two of them together, they compliment one another so well. Dominic is kind, soft-hearted, but he's still dealing with his addiction.
Levi is ruthless, a little bit lost and unsteady, and harboring his own demons.
In between the hot sex, the new relationship woes, the two are trying to get their careers together. After everything that happened with the Seven of Spades, Levi is trying to get back to his normal. Dominic is trying his had at private investigating.
Trick Roller is different from Kill Game as there isn't a serial killer to chase after, but that doesn't mean things are easy. Not when Levi has a case that is proving to be anything than simple, and Dominic is trying to balance his life between his new career and his addictions.
I'm excited to see how Levi and Dominic's relationship changes and grows throughout the other books, as they navigate themselves and each other through their demons.
Cordelia Kingsbride is brilliant. The way she's able to manipulate the story and keep the reader guessing is awe-inspiring.
That ending. I need the third book after that ending. It's not a cliff hanger exactly, just affirmation what we already knew, however, the way it's presented is brilliant. This series has quickly become one of my favorites
In book 2 of this series, their relationship is growing and it feels so natural. The secondary characters are fully developed. The cases and their work feel real to me, and the overarching mystery of the serial killer is fascinating. And, let me tell you, the fictional women on the fictional jury weren't the only ones swooning during Dominic's testimony in the court room scene. Wow!
The writing is tight and amazing. My brain didn't pick out a single sentence, not even a single word, that could be changed to make the story better.
I read somewhere that this author has written other books that aren't available. I hope this means we'll see the rest of this series and much more from Cordelia Kingsbridge.

This book has pretty much the same energy as the first book. We all know the truth, along with Levi.Read more
