Lucky Thompson is in three different groups. There is a trio with guitar and bass, a quartet with piano trio, and a quintet with trombone and rhythm section. The recordings are all good. I have to say that I think this is absolutely the best Lucky Thompson record that I have ever heard including the sides with Tete Montoliu and live performances with Charlie Parker.

Please make sure that you get this recording while it is available.

Lucky Thompson was one of the great tenor saxes. This album, in which he is wonderfully accompanied by Oscar Pettiford, is a gem. Thompson's tone is unsurpassed, and equalled, imho, only by the later Ben Webster, Illinois Jacquet, Ike Quebec, maybe Arnett Cobb, and going way back, Herschel Evans.

This is the difinitive Lucky Thompson recording. This CD has been out of print for some time now, but I am happy to say that it has been reissued on the Fresh Sound label under the title of "Lucky Thompson Meets Oscar Pettiford"

It is the exact same recording with the added bonus of informative session notes in the booklet, an only costs $12.99. And its worth every cent!!!
