I purchased both the 26" TriggerPoint Grid 2.0 and the 13" Grid X figuring I wanted the longer, softer version to accommodate my larger frame and as an introduction to foam rolling and the remarkably harder Grid X for targeting more specific areas once I became used to the 2.0. My past experience has only been with the black molded polypropylene versions, and I have to admit that the TriggerPoint Grids are definitely an upgrade from that, and if they prove to last longer than the molded rollers, then perhaps it's actually worth the extra expense (remains to be seen).
For anyone new to rolling, I'd definitely not start out with the harder Grid X because it might prove so painful that it'll dissuade you from continuing to use it altogether; the original version is bad enough if you're new to it. Unfortunately, I also feel like the 13" version is a little too short for working both legs at once (which is how you may want to start rather than placing all your weight on one leg at a time) and for rolling the upper and lower back (or at least it is for my 6'3" body). This means you'll probably also eventually wind up purchasing both since the 26" Grid 2.0 version can prove a little ungainly for some exercises where you really want to use something shorter.
So, while I do recommend both the Grid 2.0 and the Grid X as rollers, why only 3 stars? I took off a star because of price and another for lack of documentation. They seem pretty expensive for what they are (some molded foam wrapped plastic pipe), especially given that there are other similar products out there that are much less expensive like the Master of Muscle Muscle Mauler or traditional molded rollers for much, much less. The instructions that come with the rollers are only printed on the packaging and not particularly instructive (for this price point, a real manual with complete instructions for more than just a few exercises is justified).
The "Free Online Instructional Videos" are also lacking, at best. After going through the sign up process to the video portal, the only videos available covered the calves, quadriceps, upper back and lats. What about the lower back, hamstrings, pecs...? The videos seem incomplete, at best, and hardly a proper justification of the price you're paying for some plastic and foam. You'll be stuck trying to find further instructions elsewhere for a more complete rolling experience, or stuck shelling out more money to purchase their instructional videos and online courses (which is where the purchase of this product seems intended to lead).
I've got the rollers now, and they're great. Given that, it's probably not worth my time and energy to try out the Master of Muscle Muscle Mauler for comparison, but I'd advise someone considering both to try the Muscle Mauler out first, and you might be perfectly happy with that for a fraction of the price (you can always return it on Amazon if you don't like it, but lots of reviews say you won't). I wound up doing a Google search for "Muscle Mauler pdf" so I could find the Muscle Mauler pdf manual that was a lot more instructive with 30 pages of exercises than what came with the TriggerPoint Grids (virtually nothing). That's the sort of manual that should have come with the Grids!
Anyway, great rollers, but offered by a seemingly greedy manufacturer that seems more interested in sucking customers further down their consumer pipeline toward purchasing further instruction for their use rather than providing more comprehensive help up front.
Let's be clear about one thing: this is the most firm foam-roller I have ever used. And that's a good thing, once you're ready for it.
If you are unfamiliar with self-massage using a foam roller, there are many articles explaining the concept just a few mouse-clicks away. To summarize, the idea is to decrease post-workout discomfort and downtime by improving the performance of the lymphatic system. Basically, you press sore parts of your body against a firm object using a rolling motion, which moves the byproducts of anaerobic respiration away from the muscles and toward the lymph nodes.
PRO:
-firmness: words do not describe this well. But it is good for working on deep knots.
-fit and finish: no rough edges or uncomfortable spots.
-hollow: you can stuff other gym gear into the middle during transport, unlike a solid roller.
-strong: supports up to 500 lbs of static load, should never wear out.
-suggestions: The inside of the cardboard packaging shows several ways to use a foam roller, which is great for newbies.
CON: (none really)
-price: similar designs are available under $20 (but they aren't as nice)
-packaging: somewhat hard to figure out how to remove.
-newbie-friendliness: a roller this firm can be extremely uncomfortable if you work out a lot, but don't presently perform self-massage afterward. try a softer model for starting, you'll thank me later.
I used to carry the normal GRID and a lacrosse ball. Now I just use this.
The results of using it are nothing short of fantastic--if a trainer of physical therapist has recommended using one, it's been a great treatment and I won't go run or go to training of any kind without using this first as part of warm up, as well as after as part of cool down. The only thing I'd change in the listing is making specific note in the product title (not just description) that this is the extra firm version, because it's not for everyone.
I literally love this thing.

NOW, despite the mis information that you are breaking down scar tissue and adhesions on fascia, there is little science to back this up. Regardless, it works! It forces the muscles to relax and gets blood flowing, providing nutrients and relaxation.
You should roll over a sore spot and stay there, roll side to side and also flex the muscle in certain directions. Make sure to take time on a troubled area, as just briefly rolling, while feeling nice, is not as effective.
A good way to get into the shoulders is to lie with your upper back on the roller, then hug yourself with your arms, then roll side to side.
Another tip is for tight hips, roll up to the bottom of your hip joint and lie on your side. Then flex your knee back and forth to really get in there.
Overall a great product, it's robust and the grooves give a different feeling depending on where you roll. It's lightweight and definitely a must have for some one who cannot afford frequent massages.

I found the other ones to be really squishy to the point where they weren’t much use on muscles like my calves and hamstrings.
The grooves on the normal one are more or less just for show. You can’t really tell which part you’re using.
The Grid X on the other hand gives just about enough squishiness to compress it when you really push your thumb into it. It’s very firm.
You can really feel the ridges and bumps without it being too hard that it’s sore.
I wouldn’t really recommend using it on more sensitive muscles like your lats - stick to the normal squishy ones for that kind of stuff.
If you’re finding the normal density foam rollers aren’t really doing the job - this one is for you.
If you’re (relatively) new to foam rolling and you’re trying to decide between this and a normal one - I’d probably recommend a normal one. This is nice to have as an extra, but it’s not as versatile as the normal ones in my opinion. You can do more or less every muscle with the softer one, but this is really only for those muscles you feel aren’t been hit enough by the soft ones.
