This is a boxed set of the three previously released albums: Magma Live/Hhai (recorded in 1975), Udu Wudu (1976), and Attahk (1978).

Inside the cardboard slipcase is 3-section folding cardboard package with high density foam spindles to hold each cd (they are not in sleeves). The original album's front covers are reproduced on panels of the package. Everything is printed in full color including the booklet and even the labels of the CDs, giving the impression of a high quality throughout. The booklet also includes several pages on the history of the band. There are no bonus tracks.

I haven't compared the sound, but there is no mention of remastering. Recommended, if you don't already own these separately.

Weird and wonderful set that captures this unique band at three distinct stages in their career. They hover somewhere around Can, Focus, and King Crimson territory without really sounding like any of those bands. In fact, they don't really sound that much like anyone else. Especially those vocals. Sort of like Donald Byrd's "New Perspective" reimagined by the Klingon Opera Company. My sister described this music as "bananas."

Magma is the inspiration for so many other bizarre bands. The Ruins, Boredoms, Deerhoof, and even Acid Mothers Temple must pay homage to this strange fountain. These albums are an excellent place to start and begin deciphering their alien tongue.
