What I found distasteful was that he never gave her time to get used to being married, oh no he had to take her innocence that very night. All the other brides before her had time to adjust.
Why did it bother me so much? Because growing up I had to fend off the advances of my stepfather and it disgusts me that a man old enough to be a girls father wants her sexually, not only that but my mother was alive and very much married to him. How can these old men justify this action?
What I can say is I kept rooting for Nate and Trinity to somehow be able to get together (not by way of an affair) to be able to love and marry each other. I was thrilled that they finally could achieve that special goal.
That is the reason I could honestly give this book 5 stars. I really wish you could have found a better way for Trinity and Nate to marry and for her to be an innocent when they did finally marry.
Oh well Carré it was very intriguing and kept me reading the story nonstop because I just had to know if they would get together honorably. Thank you for letting that happen Carré.
Nathaniel, her new step son takes her early the next day to buy her proper clothes for her new social standing. He picks out everything including things she didn't know about. Gorgeous dresses she has never worn or even seen in Lawrence, MA.
Her first night as a bride is horrible and she is thankful they have there separate rooms.
This story becomes more complicated as it goes on and secrets are being held from all and Nate who lives in Boston is expected to become engages to a beautiful woman he doesn't love. He can't take his mind off of Trinity.
Twists and turns, are happening throughout this story which makes it very hard to put down.
I love Carre Whiles stories and she is one of my favorite authors. I end up reading all her books to the end for none of them can easily be put down.
This is a must read and highly recommended addition to the American Mail Order Brides series which so far have all been wonderful.
Mr John Witherspoon claimed his marital rights the first night and every night. Nate fell in love with his father's wife and even wanted an affair. Trinity seemed to dither ineffectively and later proved to have no backbone. By the end of the book, I couldn't stand any of them. I gave it two stars because I had a little hope for some sort of salvageable ending but that didn't happen.
I am sorry but I really cannot recommend this book. I feel bad because I know authors work hard on their books. But honestly, this is my opinion. Some people liked the book. You can use your own judgement.
