Hailing from Bayonne in the Basque region of southwest France, Sylvain Luc is one of today's most compelling acoustic guitar stylists. On Young and Fine he reunites with the remarkable musicians of Trio Sud - bassist Jean-Marc Jafet and drummer Andre Ceccarelli. Their third Dreyfus recording (Luc's sixth overall), Young and Fine, takes its title from a lovely composition by a recently departed European jazz legend, Austria's Josef Zawinul.
Luc weaves a complex web of acoustic-electric sound, nylonand steel-string textures, showcasing his own music, venerable jazz standards (Wayne Shorter, Dizzy Gillespie), classics of modern jazz repertoire (Joseph Zawinul) and even well-chosen items (Stevie Wonder) from the pop realm.

A telepathically-tight jazz trio featuring perhaps the greatest acoustic guitarist in jazz history. The compositions and playing here are simply perfect.
Sylvain Luc and Trio Sud are the end of the line when it comes to ensemble playing, period. No other trio plays with such synergy. Three pieces of a puzzle that fit together so well, it is pure magic. Not only masters at their respective crafts but each has a deftness of touch, beautiful command, unmatched lyrical phrasing, playfulness, restraint and abandon when necessary. There is no better guitar player than Sylvain Luc on the planet right now. How do you not love a guy that can make music like that? These guys are The Beatles of the Jazz Trio in my opinion and their music lifts my soul the way The Beatles music did, pure and simple. What a gift!
