A physician's prespective on Vitamin C topical and skin care products in general
on June 1, 2015
As a physician with special interest in wellness and preventive care, skin care is one of often asked questions by my patients. There are many skin care products out there that are doing quite a decent job to help tighten up the skin and reduce the "appearance" of wrinkles, in another word, providing cosmetic result, and are usually selling over the counter.
Those that claim to have therapeutic result has to be able to "do something" to the skin and they usually contain ingredients with a Vitamin A derivatives (such as retinoic acid) which increase skin turnover and ehnance the collagan. The mildest forms are allowed to be sold over the counter, the more potent forms are all prescription only. It's oaky to start with the milder form and work your way up to more potent forms as guided by your physician.
I have known Vitamin C as a topical agent to nuture our skin for some time but in no mood to spend a fortune for myself or recommend that to my patient. I came across this product while researching on Vitamin C topical and figure it worth $20 to give the products a chance. A week into the process, I found it does give the apperance of tightening skin. I use a small amount of this as a beginning foundation in addition to a mixture of retinoic acid and moisturizer, both of which, I have been using for a while. I will continue to use Vitamin C topical and gives feedback to those that show might show interest in following it.
And... please don't forget to apply a strong SPF facial cream during day time, as the sun is the one that did most of the damage to our skin besides aging in the first place.
Still love the serum and has been re-ordering it. Unfortunately they have been changed to "cheap" container that do not dispense well. So far out of the subsequent 4 bottles I ordered, 1 okay, 2 "stuck" in the down position and has to be push up manually, 1 totally stuck. Fortunatley I have save one of the earlier version of their bottle and has been refilling it from the new bottles I bought. Once this old bottle broken down from repeated usage, I guess I would be seraching for a replacement. What a shame for such a short-sighted replacement without throughoutly testing it first. Yes, I have been stop recommending to my patient.
