The MG2TRI Flexible Mini Tripod with Universal Smartphone Holder fits Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iPhone 6S Plus and 6S, iPhone 6 Plus, 6, 5S, 5C, and SE, Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Note 4, and Note 3, Galaxy S6 edge+, S6, S5, and S4, LG G5, G4, and G3, Google Nexus 5, HTC One M8 and One Max, Nokia Lumia 1520, 1020, and Motorola Moto G and Moto X. The tripod is also compatible with small digital cameras with the standard 1/4”-20 camera pattern. This unique package includes a Flexible Mini Tripod with Arkon’s Mobile Grip 2 Universal Smartphone Holder and handy carrying pouch. Use the flexible mini tripod/holder package in one of two ways: 1) Attach a digital camera directly to the flexible mini tripod by screwing it onto the 1/4”-20 mounting bolt, or 2) screw the end of the Mobile Grip 2 holder directly onto the mini tripod for use with a smartphone (remove the rubber insert on the side of the holder to reveal an industry-standard 1/4”-20 threaded camera mounting pattern for use). Take photos anywhere using the Flexible Mini Tripod. Bend the tripod’s legs to grab on to fences, poles, and trees. Or, hold up the tripod to get a better shot of the action at concerts, parades, and other public events. The Mobile Grip 2 holder expands to accommodate all smartphones (even those with skins and ruggedized cases) up to 3.6” wide. The holder is just 1.4” high, and is ideal for those who prefer a smaller profile. The holder’s spring-loaded mechanism makes it easy to insert or remove the cell phone from the holder with one hand, yet holds the smartphone securely. Its simplistic yet effective design keeps rear smartphone cameras free for spontaneous pictures or videos.

The legs of the tripod are flexible to use on any flat surface or wrapped around different objects; they have soft foam coating and rubber tips. The top mounting plate can be adjusted with a screw to tilt in different angles. MG2 holder is slim enough to keep back of your phone open without covering the camera. Perfect for taking pictures or videos with your smartphone and regular camera. And as bonus, it comes with a nice traveling storage pouch.
The Joby gorilla pod is more portable but again more flimsy and doesn't seem to hold the phone as securely. If weight or bulkiness is a question, this is the tripod to buy. The legs are more flimsy and the whole apparatus tips over more easily than the Akron tripod but this is the price for extreme portability but the Akron tripod is also portable but again is a bit more bulky.
Let me start by saying that the actual product works great! I mainly use it for coaching myself when I do olympic lifts, but I also use it on the road to away games on the bus. I got mine as a gift last year. The mount works well because you can use it in landscape and portrait. I would give this a % star rating, but I am going 1 star to get this noticed so it doesn't happen to anyone else.
A coworker asked me to buy him 2 so he could use one in the same capacity and he can give the other to his daughter that does gymnastics and like to dance. When I received the package today, it was a COMPLETELY different tripod and mount. I'm not sure what happened, but I already filed for a return with Amazon. I really want to order this again in hopes to receive the real thing, but i'm afraid the same this will happen. It might have been ok if the item were comparable, but the mount doesn't rotate so you can only use landscape. So if you happen to use the tripod on a pole, the only option to record is portrait unless you're able to turn it upward while mounted which will likely not work with the size of today's phones.
Please let me know how I can buy the real thing!! :)
EDIT: I called amazon and they refunded me for the incorrect items. They are also investigating why the product I received is incorrect. They are checking the inventory and will be in contact with me when the issue is resolved.
The product comes with a carrying bag, and I found that it can be folded up fairly tightly. I bring it in my laptop bag while traveling and don't notice it at all.
All in all, the product provides an easy and quick set-up for getting steady HDR pictures from your phone so you can take advantage of that expensive camera. I would recommend this to anyone who loves taking pictures, but uses their phone to do so.
The holder for the phone is adjustable and easy to use and install. The top part of the tripod is adjustable using the levers. The top parts pivots, but can be used to point directly down.
I use it to shoot video on my iPhone 6plus. I have used it to record presentations I have made in a classroom setting. I also intend to use it for video conferences so I don't have to worry about holding the phone while talking.
