I had a mix of various brands of surge protectors used throughout my house, all with similarly high Jules level in protection. Recently I experienced a severe power surge due to a fallen tree, all brands surge protectors did their work in protecting my equipments, however, most got fried and lost their protecting ability after the surge, they couldn't be reset into surge protectors, they are reduced to unprotected power strips; only one model -- this super7 model from Tripp Lite -- stood undefeated. This 2160 Jules model not only provided due protection, it maintained its original surge protecting power by resetting. The three SUPER7 strips are true winners. I've since replaced all surge protectors to this model. On the opposite end of the performance scale is the Belkin brand. Belkin surge protectors not just got fried inside, the strips char badly and shoot out smoke and black soot, filling the entire house with smoke and heavy burning smell. Fire truck came with inferred detectors which the fire fighters used to scan the walls, to locate possible fire behind the walls. They eventually found the disfigured Belkin surge strip as the source of heavy smoke and smell. Belkin makes sleek looking products, but I'd go with the brand with true quality in mind.

I bought three of these for various locations throughout the house. I wanted actual surge protection and not just a power strip. After mucho reading of reviews I went with Tripp Lite. I have some other Tripp Lite strips at home, and they seem durable and nice. And the components inside are allegedly top-notch (although I wouldn't personally know).

This is a new style of Super7. I have an older style Super7 and there are two main differences.

The first is that on the new style the side plugs are closer to the end of the strip. My old style has them smack in the middle. That should not really affect anything at all, except for maybe aesthetics.

The one major gripe, though, is the on/off switch. The old style was this strong, stiff, bulky thing that required work to turn on or off. A good thing considering strips are often in the area of accidental kicks and shoves by one's feet.

Unfortunately, the new Super7 features a week on/off switch that can EASILY and accidentally be turned on or off. You now have to pay special attention to the location of the strip. Even my cat could accidentally flip this off. Not good when a computer is plugged into it.

Two stars off for this new "feature."

I purchased a new desktop computer to replace my old laptop. The external monitor and speakers required two additional outlets on my surge protector.

My old surge protector had enough outlets, but two of the power cables had plugs that took up three spaces, each. In addition, I had my surge protector, router, cables and plugs all tucked into a small space in the back drawer of my desk. THIS SURGE PROTECTOR SOLVED MY PROBLEMS. I was able to plug ALL of my devices onto this surge protector, AND it fitted perfectly into the small space.

I've had it for about a month and have encountered no problems. The 2350 Joules gives me peace of mind that my new computer will be protected. The price is pretty good, too!

Style Name: 7ft Cord + TEL
The advantage of this surge protector-power strip is that there is a 2 outlet phone jack surge protector on board. I actually had a modem blow out due to a surge, and it came through the telephone line. Now I use a tel-surge protector so I don't have to unplug my phone when a storm is brewing. Note that most surge protectors (baring the kind with huge capacitors) cannot protect against lightning hits, but surges from power problems coming over the lines are common, especially in summer, and these devices can help.

Luckily, there have been no events to test the actual surge protection of this strip, so I really can't comment on that. I do, however, like the design. The right-angle plug is very convenient. Spacing of the outlets on top allow for bulky plugs, and the two side outlets are a plus. I would definitely purchase more.

Same as all other Tripp Lite products I've owned. Why buy anything but else? Side transformer plugs definitely come in handy. Bought this one to slide under the couch primarily for hidden laptop plugs instead of draping up and over to a blocked wall outlet.

My father owned and operated a TV shop for over 30 years in lightning-rich FL and put us through college replacing high voltage capacitors in big-screen televisions. What kind of surge protectors were in our house? Tripp Lite. Did we ever lose a TV, or VCR, computer, or any other piece of expensive electronics to a surge? No.

I've been using the same two Tripp Lite surge protectors for my television setup and my computer for over 10 years throughout many moves and I've never lost a piece of hardware to a surge either. When I need a new power strip it's not a matter of what brand to buy, only which model.

"Sadly" I've never gotten a chance to cash in that lifetime warranty... will keep testing.

I think this is a decent product but you never really know with surge protectors until a surge hits and the equipment is destroyed. I live in Florida and we get a lot of lightning strikes and surges so time will tell. The design is nice and I trust this manufacturer.
