Expandable Battery Backup, True Online Operation and Controllable Load Banks
The SU1500XL features a large internal battery set that provides 14 minutes of battery support for a half load (600 watts) and 4.5 minutes for a full load (1200 watts). For mission-critical applications demanding continuous uptime, the fully scalable SU1500XL can provide expandable runtime with optional external battery packs (Tripp Lite model BP48V24-2U or BP48V60RT-3U), sold separately.
The SU1500XL provides the highest level of protection available for mission-critical equipment. It actively converts raw incoming AC power to DC, then re-converts it back to regulated, filtered AC output with a pure sine wave, completely isolating connected components from all power problems. Zero transfer time between AC and battery operation maintains continuous output and further protects connected equipment from the disruptive effects of blackouts and severe low-voltage conditions. Sine wave output guarantees compatibility with all equipment types.
The SU1500XL'S 6 5-15R outlets are arranged in 2 load banks of 3 outlets each that are individually controllable via a software interface for remote reboot of locked-up equipment or load shedding to maximize battery backup time for mission-critical equipment.
The SU1500XL features an EPO interface port that supports emergency shut-off in large facilities (cable included).
Front-Panel LEDs, Network Management, Dataline and Power Protection
The SU1500XL features 14 front-panel LEDs that enable IT personnel to monitor UPS and battery status. An audible alarm signals UPS startup, power failure, low battery, overload, UPS fault and remote shutdown conditions.
The SU1500XL features 1 USB port and 1 DB9 port (cables included). When used with Tripp Lite's included PowerAlert software, these ports provide comprehensive network power monitoring and control. The SU1500XL also accepts an optional SNMPWEBCARD accessory that enables the UPS to operate as a managed device on the network.
The SU1500XL features a 570-joule surge suppression rating to protect connected components and data from the harmful effects of power surges. One set of tel/DSL/Ethernet (RJ45) jacks provides surge protection for a standard phone or network connection (cable not included). Additionally, incorporated technology filters out disruptive line noise, preventing incremental hardware damage and data corruption.

Used it for a week now, here are the results. Power company input 123.5 V, 59.8 Hz, Output 119.9 & 60 Hz. Gas Generator input 113 V & 62.1 Hz, Tripp Lite SU1500XL output 119.9 V and 61.1 Hz. The results fluctuated, but this was the worst case. Yes the dual fans are noticeable, but can live with it knowing my computer system is protected. Technical support help me set up the software that will shut down my computer if there is a total loss of power, then it will shut itself off, then when it sensors power again it will turn on and reboot the computer. (have not tested this scenario yet). Recommend this system.Read more ›
I want true sine-wave output, because that's what the regular utility power is. Those are advertise a "modified sine wave" are lying to you - it isn't a "modified sine wave". That's some kind of baloney marketing word. It's a PWM square wave. "Modified sine wave" = PWM square wave. A PWM square wave is an ugly thing indeed - you don't want it. It can cause your speakers to buzz and hum, amongst other symptoms, and it's very hard on your electronic devices. It'll cause the cheapo china power supply in most desktop pc's to fail if you run for any significant time on battery power. No thanks! Give me a proper sine wave, like the utility company.
I also want an online double-conversion device. Here's why. All the cheap low-dollar standby UPS's have a tiny battery that runs for 5 or 10 minutes. It's that way for a reason. They've designed the inverter so cheaply, that it doesn't have proper cooling - if you run for longer than 10 minutes on the inverter, it overheats and shuts down! If you hack it to install a larger battery for longer run time, you'll fry the inverter! An online double-conversion device like this has large beefy heatsinks and fans, since it's always running off the inverter. There is no heat/time constraint. As an added benefit, the inverter of an online UPS, since it's running 24/7 all the time, is designed with high quality components. The inverter in a cheapo standby UPS contains very cheap junky chinese components that don't last - the inverter only gets used a few minutes each year after all, when the power flickers or goes out, so it doesn't need to be built to last.Read more ›
This product is of high quality build, and of course its performance is good as well. Output power is very clean and consistent.
Of course as with other double conversion UPS, the cooling fans on this device is rather loud, and they run at all times, even if the load is powered off, and even if the UPS is powered off. They can only be shutoff if the UPS is powered off and unplugged.
For those who plan to mod the fans there are a couple things to know first. They are standard 80mm fans. They have a proprietary pin connector and wire arrangement. The new fan RPM can't be too low or the system will detect a fault.
Unfortunately after around 5 years, both (I have 2 Tripp Lite 1500XL's) died at around 2 months apart. The fault lights flash on both units and they refuse to work, even with the batteries replaced.
