From the manufacturer

6 Outlet Under MonitorSurge Protector RJ11 6 feet Cord 1440 Joule

The TMC-6 offers premium surge protection for PCs and all electronics. It provides 6 5-15R outlets, including 4 that are equipped with their own individual switches, plus single-line tel/DSL line surge protection. Its low-profile, under-monitor design makes the TMC-6 easy to integrate into any home or office PC setup. A 6 feet cord enables connection to a distant wall outlet, and a space-saving, right-angle 5-15P plug allows furniture to be placed flush against the wall.

Surge Suppression, Improved Component Performance and Phone Line Protection

More joules mean more protection, and the TMC-6 delivers with a high 1440-joule surge protection rating. And compared with other surge suppressors, the TMC-6 provides a substantially larger and more robust component array to provide an effective, multi-layered defense against damaging power surges.

Various electromagnetic and radio sources can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. This line noise is a common cause of incremental hardware damage, data corruption and performance problems. The TMC-6 incorporates technology that filters out disruptive line noise, preventing it from affecting your equipment, and helping to ensure peak performance.

Phone connections represent a potential back door through which a damaging surge could reach your equipment. The TMC-6 includes one set of built-in tel/DSL (RJ11) jacks to prevent surges from damaging your computer, fax or modem (one 6-ft. RJ11 phone cord included).

Individually Controllable Outlets, Diagnostic Capabilities & Low-Profile Design

The TMC-6 provides a total of 6 AC outlets—ample capacity for a desktop computer setup. 4 of the outlets are individually controllable with their own On/Off switches. A Master On/Off switch controls these outlets plus one additional outlet. The remaining outlet is 'always on'—ideal for components such as fax machines that need to remain powered at all times. This highly controllable outlet array gives you maximum flexibility in determining which components receive power.

The TMC-6 features 6 diagnostic LEDs. 2 confirm safe grounding and active surge protection, and the remaining 5 indicate that AC power is available at the outlets.

The TMC-6's space-saving, low-profile design integrates easily into your home or office computer setup. It installs neatly under the monitor, so that power switches are readily accessible and diagnostic LEDs are easily visible.

Lifetime Warranty and an of Ultimate Lifetime Insurance

The TMC-6 is manufactured in compliance with strict RoHS specifications, reflecting Tripp Lite's commitment to environmental responsibility. For peace of mind, it comes backed by a lifetime warranty and an Ultimate Lifetime Insurance for connected equipment.

A New Sleek Look For an Old Idea
If you’ve owned a computer long enough you probably remember these power centers that typically sat between your PC and your monitor. Like the less sophisticated ‘power strip’, they allowed you to plug all your stuff in to one place, and they give you some measure of surge protection. Unlike the power strip, these devices allow you to turn individual components on and off, as well as having a ‘Master’ switch to turn everything on and off. There are individual plugs marked: Computer, Monitor, Printer, AUX1, AUX2, and a convenience outlet marked ‘Unswitched’ (which is always on).Another nice feature of the switches in these units is that they are mechanical, that is, they stay in the position you put them in. So let say you normally want your PC and Monitor to come on, but don’t regularly use the printer; you can select the Computer and Monitor switches, then use the Master to turn them both on and off together, then turn on the printer separately when you need it. What I find most useful about this form factor, is that the switches are in the front, handy and easy to get to, and the cords are in the rear, out of the way and unseen. It makes for a clean and efficient workstation. What prompted me to look for one of these were my computer accessories: Powered Speakers, DAC, and Mixing Interfaces. The switches for these devices were all on the back and hard to get to, and I don’t want to leave them on because they consume significant power and generate heat. This Tripp-Lite Power Station works perfectly and lets me turn each device on and off when I need it, conveniently. It’s also black, and sleek, and fits nicely under my workstation desktop, though mounting took some creativity. As mentioned it provides surge protection and there's a light to let you know its working, another light lets you know your house wiring is correct. I do need to get some black tape in my lable maker and make these look a little better. 🤓I don’t know why these became unpopular, and everyone switched to cheap power strips (yeah, because they’re cheap, these are pricier), but I find these power centers far more functional (I have another in my equipment rack). This Tripp-Lite unit is well made, looks nice, and does exactly what I need. 👍

Like the always on outlet. Bought this to replace an over 30 year old power center. I chose this because I need switchable outlets for external expansion ports, backup storage, and multiple monitors. It fits perfectly between the AIO and the second monitor, and works better than advertised.

Excellent, useful, and sleek appearance. I bought this to replace an older but similar Belkin device which ran "warm" (using too much power on idle). Along with surge protection, this device allows you to turn on/off printer, monitor, and two auxiliary outlet plugs of your choice (I use Aux #1 for my speakers). The CPU/computer plug is controlled directly by the Master switch; there is no "Computer" switch on the front of the device. Some people need to keep their computer running all the time (for remote access, etc.), but wish to save power by not running the monitor or printer. Turning the monitor, speakers, and printer on/off is within easy reach on this unit, without having to reach across, over, or under the desk to turn various devices on or off.

A nice feature of this unit is the "always on" outlet, which remains on even when the master switch is turned off. This is particularly useful if you leave your modem and wireless router on all the time, in order to use wireless devices (smart phones, laptops, streaming Netflix, etc.) elsewhere in the home. However, leaving these two devices on consumes 15-20 watts of power at all times. For those who wish to turn off their modem and/or router when their computer is not in use, these devices may be plugged into one of the Auxiliary plugs, so that you can control on/off with the Aux switch.

The former Belkin unit lacked an "always on" outlet, so in order to leave modem and router on all the time, I had to leave the Master switch on as well. I have only one electrical wall outlet at my computer desk, with the surge protector using one plug and a lamp using the second plug. In order to keep the modem and router on at all times with the Belkin, I had to leave the Master switch and the second Auxiliary switch "on" at all times. Eventually the Belkin unit began to run "warm", which means additional idle power was being consumed. The "always on" plug allows me to keep the router and modem powered up while leaving the Master switch and the rest of the device powered off, hence no idle power loss.

The black color matches the black frames of most modern monitors, and the oval bases seen today on most monitors will easily fit on top of this unit.
Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2014
Yeah it may not look cool, or sleek, but its black and can be tucked away. I keep this under my desk in a open drawer space so it hardly is seen. Very useful as others have mentioned and I think this might be the ONLY company that sells these anymore. Not sure why stores don't have them, and why they aren't being sold anymore. I can hook up anything to my Aux2 or even Printer button (I dont have a printer) but with a press of a button I can turn on a fan in my room or lights if I wanted to.

Again the buttons do feel a bit weird, I hope I dont break my master button, but I registered my product and its lifetime warranty so no losing there!

Have used this Surge protector on my desk in the office for more than 2 decades. Accessible to turn off and on each item that is attached to it. For instance I have a printer plugged into one outlet and only turn it on when I need the printer. Saves energy and is an efficient piece to the office.
