I love picture books...and so do most young kids. As a former kindergarten teacher and a mom and grandmother, I want a picture book to be entertaining. I'd also like it to be educational. I need the illustrations to be bright and colorful and fun to look at.

A Troop is a Group of Monkeys gets FIVE STARS in every category. My five-year old grandson grabbed it from the pile of books I offered him. "This one, Grammy!" He loved the beautiful language the author uses - and so did I. We both learned new collective nouns for many of the animal groups. I did not know that a bunch of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope...how perfect!

As I turned the last page, Jeremy was already asking me to read it again. It is one of his favorite picture books! And mine!

I recommend this to any parent or teacher who wants a book that will inspire a child and encourage him to become a lover of books and reading!

This delightful book reveals the most amazing 'group' names of animals, but is more than just an encyclopedic listing...the rhyme is entertaining, the colors that permeate the beautiful illustrations are exciting, and the rhythm of panning through the jungle with group after group of frolicking creatures carries the eyes, the mind, and the heart on an adventure through nature. You'll love this book. I can hardly wait to give it to my granddaughter, an animal lover.

An entertaining book that kids will enjoy reading again and again. I just gave the book to my granddaughter at Thanksgiving and she (and the adults) had fun trying to memorize the variety of fun animal groups. The rhyming and illustrations are engaging. Great collboration between author, Julie Hedlund, and illustrator, Pamela Baron. Make sure you check out the app!

I love this book for so many reasons, but mostly for educating my children and students about collective nouns for animal groups. I'm currently using this book in my classroom as an enrichment to the Common Core State Standards in Science. (But shhh, the kids don't know any of this, they just love the book!) We love the app too! It's very colorful and engaging! Highly recommend!

I enjoy the simplicity of this story for bedtime or anytime. The rhythm and the animals make us want to read this again and again. The collective nouns are fun for children and parents too. The illustrations are very nice.

Did you know that a group of owls is called a "parliament"? I didn't and I'm an author! But I do now. There are a lot of BIG words here (a little too many) so even parents will expand their vocabulary. This is a rhyming story with one line of text per page and the rhyme is very pleasant to the ear. My daughter loves to point out animals and make funny sounds and this book gives plenty of opportunities to do so.

The author even mentions a "gam of whales," which makes my heart sing as I am a big whale enthusiast (and author of Maya & Filippo Look for Whales).
