Not purple, but blue!

I wanted to buy purple for my friend. I already had a blue pair purchased elsewhere. I have ordered the purple haze Firestix three times from Amazon, and each time they arrived, there were blue sticks in a purple box. And the batteries are weak, so the color barely shows. I talked to two different customer representatives from Amazon, and I was told that the people who pack their boxes are not allowed to check if the color is correct. Obviously there was a bad batch sent to Amazon. Very disappointing.

In the photos, my blue FirestiX are always on the left. When turned over, I tapped both packages at the same time. In the second photo, you can see that they are both blue, but the one on the right is weaker. In the 3rd photo, the color of the sticks from Amazon faded right away.

Go to a music store to purchase these. You will pay more, but it will be worth it.

Great sticks for added effect

I almost passed on these because of the low ratings people have given them. I took a chance on them anyway because I figured the fun effect they could have out weighed the chance that they were as bad as the reviews said they were. The fact is, these are pretty cool. I have played with them for about 1 hour total now and they work great and are holding up to quite a beating. Far more than I thought they would. They light up bright and look pretty awesome.

Having said that, there are a few things these are not. First as mentioned in other reviews they do not have the same feel as a wood stick. I see no reason to lower their rating for that though because after all, they are not wood sticks! Wood sticks are pretty rigid where these have some flex to them. They're not rubbery just not rigid like wood. This is likely so that they are durable. Unlike wood, plastic has no grain structure. If these were made more rigid they would likely be brittle and break easily. These are likely a compromise between rigidity and durability. Overall I'd say the effect is very livable and they are very playable.

Also, these will likely not be as durable as a good wooden stick. These again are not wood and plastic after all. The thing is, wood sticks don't last forever and even break during use. These also will not be every day sticks and possibly not even all night sticks. They will be sticks where the added effect of a brightly lighted stick is worth the loss of feel and possibly durability.

If you're thinking about these for an added effect for a show or a little novelty when your playing, I say go for it. They do appear to be able to hold up pretty well to hard use and for limited uses they can be pretty cool. Just don't expect that you will throw away your wood sticks, that's not the point of these.

SKIP THESE - Poorly made!

Very cool concept, but not executed well. These were purchased for my middle school son (who doesn't formally play the drums) and of course he LOVES these! They arrived with one stick not as bright as the other and it quickly was so dim, that the light up effect was gone. We tried to replace the batteries - I think it would have been easier to invent and create my own drumstick!!!! Think eyeglass screws (who has that kind of screwdriver set?) and then we had to remove the entire circuitry around the battery which included a thin piece of metal surrounding the base of the stick (inside) that had adhesive holding the battery compartment in place - and acted as the circuit connection so it had to be peeled off and not bent so I could try to restick in place (impossible not to bend - think thick foil). THEN you get to the button batteries stacked inside the bottom of the plastic part of the stick - They are held in place with little mounds of plastic stoppers - I do not think the batteries are meant to be changed...however at this point I had the entire thing dismantled so what did I have to lose...after TWO days of trying every little pointy thing I could find in our house, I finally got the batteries out. I replaced them with fresh new ones, reassembled the circuitry, and the light was STILL DIM!!! Very frustrating! I then thought maybe I bought new batteries that were old? So I tried ANOTHER package of new button batteries - STILL DIM!!! So we are returning them and my son is very disappointed! They flexed alot more than wood drumsticks - quite noticeable, even to us novices. That might explain why the plastic immediately was filled with tiny little cracks all the way down both shafts - noticeable when not in use and negatively impacted how the colored light shone through the stick - skip this one! A total disappointment!

nice sticks just for show, but not for pro's

I had sought these sticks out for use during a candlelight service at my church during Christmas. They definitely served their purpose as I got MANY compliments, but they cannot replicate the responsiveness of normal drum sticks. Quick background on me is that I have been playing since 5th grade, then the last 11 yrs with this praise team.

I played a song that was 3/4 time and didn't require any rudiment rolls on the snare. I would have given up the show of these sticks had I needed that accuracy. Overall, they were very bright and I saw that the batteries are easily found at most drug stores because the AG13 is a battery that Duracell and Energizer makes as a "357" or similar button cell. The stick dimensions are not mentioned on the site description but I found them to be similar in length and diameter to what I like - a 5BN. Overall because of my intent to have glowing sticks that light up when you hit them to your drum, I found it was worth the purchase.

Purchased these as a Christmas present for a drummer friend of mine as a bit of a fun novelty so I was a bit surprised to receive a call from him on boxing day saying how pleased he was with them.
I really am not qualified to know if they are gig friendly or not ( being a lowly bass player ) but if his reaction is anything to go by then I may well see them flashing away behind me at our next gig together.
Nice bit of fun and seem well made and delivered very promptly so cannot be faulted by me.

arrived not working so had to buy new batteries straight away, after eventually getting in to the battery area with a tiny screwdriver, a screw botttom would be better, took the old batteries out, they were definitely NOT new, a lovely green mouldy colour, been in there for a VERY long time, replaced with brand new ones and the firesticks eventually worked

Bought these for my son who occassionally plays in a Samba band. These were to be used for the illuminated carnivals over the summer so not his main sticks. After no more than 3 uses at practice sessions 1 stick has completely stopped working - so didn't get used at all for the purpose they were bought.

Packaging is very good and protects them well, though they are very solid and don't need any protection! They feel good in the hands and are little heavier than 'normal' drumstick but nothing to worry about.

I bought these as christmas gift for my nephew but couldn't resist getting them out and giving them a try myself, they're great fun to use and to watch others drum with them too, turn the lights out and enjoy the show!
