The story is mainly focused on Kirk, his life, his character, and what he brings to the triad. We learn about Dolf and Tal thru Kirk, enough to satisfy, but the deeper look is still on Kirk. As the story unfolds we learn just how valued he is to his mates. Even if he can't shift. Kirk really does bring a balance.
I did have a few issues with Dolf not knowing Kevin's twin by scent. This was a guy he was probably raised with, a member of his clowder, had smex with. . . Yes, over 30 years ago, but as a cat shifter he knew this guy's scent. So I'm to believe Dolf didn't know who did the car gouges when scent did tell it was a male feline. Or that the others there couldn't recognize his scent.
Another was Kevin. He didn't tell Dolf, Kirk, or Tal about his brother. We're talking twins here, cat shifter twins. They had to have a bond of some sort even if they live apart. Why wasn't Kevin forthcoming?
I'm still a bit confused over the character names heading a chapter. Usually it's to give a change in point of view. But that didn't happen. The story was still told in third person. I'm mentioning this because it was confusing.
I'd love to see a continuing story of Kirk becoming accepted, Dolf taking over from his dad, Remi getting his mate, and a deeper look at everything in that small little Clowder. Or even outside of it. Overall it was a great story, great read, and of course if you love cats you'll love this one. - Dan's Wife
Kirk lives a quite miserable life - being about forty, left by his boyfriend, struggling to make ends meet and alone on the New Years Eve. And to top it off - a snow storm is approaching. When two cats invade his home, Kirk has not the heart to throw them out. He shares the little he has with the two men who emerge when Kirk gets hurt.
With this life changing meeting Kirk is thrown into a world he did not even suspect existed. But Kirk is a strong man, adaptable and still fully able to stand up for himself and his two men. He is a bit kink loving, something that suits Dolf very well and still gentle, something that Tal the cuddler needs.
The plot is not very intricate, but it taught me a new word - a speciesist. There are some hot scenes, too, for those who like that.
