Editorial Reviews

Review

"Brown's latest is chock full of ruggedly handsome boys with a plucky heroine at the story's center. Brown's modern storytelling is humorous, heartwarming, and full of sass and spunk. The banter between Jill and Sawyer is infectious, and the chemistry between them sizzles. Add a solid, well-crafted plot filled with distinctive characters, and readers will be left with one entertaining read." - RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars

I have never met a Carolyn Brown cowboy that I didn't like. Sawyer O'Donnell is no exception. He has all the cowboy traits that make up the ideal cowboy. Plus he has some of the best lines I have ever read in one of Carolyn's books. The heroine in this story, Jill Cleary is written so well that I can picture her perfectly in my mind. Jill seems to fit just right with Sawyer and the two of them together just make me want to swoon reading about them. Then there's the big feud and all the attention both characters get from the feuding families. The way Sawyer and Jill have each other's back to get out of some hairy situations with the feuding families plays so well in this story. If you like hot cowboys, strong feisty heroines and lots of laughs you will love this book.

The Trouble with Texas Cowboys, the second installment in Carolyn Brown’s Burnt Boot, Texas series, is another sweet and fun-filled romance. After their inauspicious first meeting, Sawyer O’Donnell and Jill Cleary team up to avoid getting caught in the middle of a longstanding feud between the Gallaghers and the Brennans.

Jill and Sawyer have not had time to settle into their new home or jobs on Fiddle Creek Ranch before disaster strikes. Jill’s aunt is injured and in addition to their ranching duties, Jill and Sawyer are also busy manning the local bar and town store. They easily handle their workload but keeping out of the clutches of the rival families? More work than all three of their jobs combined, but Jill and Sawyer quickly devise a plan to steer clear of the determined families. The feud promptly heats up but so does an unanticipated romance between Jill and Sawyer.

Jill and Sawyer are both fairly laidback and their relationship begins with an easygoing friendship. After they each attend one dinner with the rival families, they both know that they do not want to take sides in the feud. The Brennans and Gallaghers are pretty relentless in trying to convince them otherwise but Jill and Sawyer successfully avoid being alone with any of them. Constantly thrown together, Jill and Sawyer are both surprised by their unexpected attraction, but instead of fighting it, they agree to see where it leads them. Their resulting romance is slow growing but very sweet and steamy.

The Gallagher/Brennan feud is instrumental in bringing Jill and Sawyer together and it is a big part of the storyline. The various family members are involved in some pretty crazy and over the top schemes that keep everyone plenty stirred up.

I received The Trouble with Texas Cowboys as a gift and a gift indeed!

This is book 2 in the Burnt Boot series. As a huge fan of the O'Donnell men I have been waiting patiently for Sawyer's story to be told and it was worth the wait and more. With all the shits and giggles that Carolyn Brown brings to us her readers continues on. Opening with a feisty redhead, Jill Clearly shotgun ready aimed at Sawyer O'Donnell. Miz Brown's description of Sawyer O'Donnell ladies will set your hearts racing and hoping he'll step off the pages into your arms-well mine anyway!

Jill's Aunt Gladys owns The Fiddle Creek Ranch, which Jill will inherit. Sawyer has been hired on as the ranch foreman and lives in the bunkhouse -HIS bunkhouse that Jill will be sharing. To Sawyer this lady spells TROUBLE in more ways than one.

The 100-year feud between the Brennan and Gallagher family continues in REDNECK CRAZY fashion as they draw in Jill, Sawyer and The Fiddle Creek Ranch. Did I mention Chicken and Hogs? Kidnapping?

You will laugh out loud how Jill Cleary ends a bar catfight.

This is the second time I've read this book and it was just as much fun as the first!

Love all of Carolyn Brown's books, but this one, the second in the Burnt Boots series, was another winner! I always love getting to know the new characters and revisiting the characters from the first book. Jill and Sawyer shoot sparks from their first meeting! The feuding neighbors are a laugh a minute and the two lovely ladies from the adjoining ranches are so desperate to beat each other out for the new cowboy--knock down drag out fights are the least of their plotting! Add to that the two guys viying for Jill's hand and you have double trouble! You have never seen two feuding families until you meet the Gallaghers and the Brennans! How about one family stealing the pigs from the other family and having them sold back to the same family as processed pork! Love that Jill and Sawyer became friends first and learned to work together as their love grew! Already waiting for the next winner from this terrific Lady!

While the characters are complex by nature, they are also well developed individuals with a sense of not only who they are; but what others may think of them and what they feel about themselves. The story line remains full of twisty scenarios throughout it also keeps you concentrating on what is happening and does not let you stray off into distant directions. I was a thought invoking story, light in nature; but not whimsical or dull. Great reading when you are allowing yourself the full pleasure to read for fun and just for the heck of it. We all need stories like this one in our lives at times.
