Product Description
Long Tru-Cool Max transmission cooler P/N LPD47391. This cooler is rated at 40,000 GVW and measures 8.5"x22.75"x1.25". This is a stacked plate, low pressure drop unit. This cooler has 3/8" inverted flare fittings. This is the ultimate cooler for heavy towing and is a must for heavy duty applications, including racing. Heat is what kills an automatic transmission. If you want to extend the life of your transmission and avoid or prolong a costly rebuild, this is very cheap insurance. All parts and instructions are included to mount and plumb this cooler. Advanced cooling protection for car, van, light truck, R.V. and towing applications. When Automatic Transmission Fluid is cold it is viscous. The unique Tru-Cool design allows the colder, thicker ATF to flow more efficiently through two open bypass channels positioned at the top of the cooler. As operating temperatures increase, the ATF becomes hotter and thinner. It's then directed through the core where it is cooled. Tru-Cool's highly efficient cooling technology combines improved protection against lube system failure with optimal heat transfer.

Why I installed it.
I recently had my torque converter fail and it sent metal all through out the transmission and the factory cooler. You are supposed to hot flush the coolers in both directions for so long and even then you're not guaranteed to get all the metal out. The shop said they did this but temperatures would climb to 190 to 200 within 20 minutes of driving to town. The factory cooler ended up being clogged and was restricting flow so basically the fluid was not getting cooled off. I was headed for another failure if i didnt do something about it. I decided to do this cooler along with new lines with 6an fittings. I also installed a -6an cooler line adapter plate which allowed me to bypass the 190° thermostat.(not recommended in colder climates, I live in south MS). I drove the truck the same amount of time to town and back. And the temps never got above 120°. I'm making a 800 mile non stop trip in a week so we will see how it really performs. Its definitely a recommended add modification along with the factory cooler if you are running a stall converter or towing.

Mine is a 2011 Sierra
Tagged the front of it black so it wouldn’t stand out along with the brackets. Drilled two holes in the latch bracket brace to hold the top brackets of the brace. That was the only “Permanent” mod to the truck.
Next I used two bolts and cut some tubing to make sleeves to the bottom would stick out a 1/4 inch forward so it wouldn’t be sitting on the cross bar preventing the chance of rubbing.
For the inlets the ac delco 19130039 push connect fitting instead of the doorman’s.

I installed this on a 2004 Tahoe with a 4l60E transmission that has 220k miles. That said, when I installed this Tru-Cool cooler, I also converted my clutch fan to dual electric fans, replaced radiator, & removed my OEM transmission cooler lines and replaced them with -6AN hose that I made myself. After that maintenance,my transmission temperatures went from sitting at 190-200 degrees to 120 at the highest. 120 degrees is where it will set when its 75 degrees out in traffic. If the truck is moving down the road its at about 110-115 degrees. (I verified with the transmission temp gauge on my dash as well as HP Tuners. Now, I cant confidently say that this true cool cooler is the SOLE reason my transmission is so much cooler because I changed other parts that are part of the equation. That said I do feel it was the most important. (Its practical 2.5x the size of the OEM one)
My maintenance advice to you: If your putting this on a GMT-800 truck, replace your transmission hard lines while your at it. Chances are they are already leaking and running -6AN hoses is easy and allows for my flexibility with routing, installation, & removal. I did not use the hardware that came in the kit because the instructions want you to cut one of your hard lines and add a supplied tube piece to the existing metal line to thus allowing it to reach the new lower port location of the new transmission cooler.
What size and thread pitch are the transmission threaded couplers at the button of the cooler? 5/8 - 18 Inverted flare. So when you search for fittings for your AN hoses or what ever, you need to ensure it says for example -6AN to 5/8-18 inverted flare flitting. I purchased 4 ea RUSSEL 640380; 2 for transmission cooler and 2 ea for the radiator.
On my specific application, being an 2004 tahoe with 34" radiator, I can tell you also your radiator hard line fittings are the same size. I am pretty sure this is the same size for any 1/2 GM truck/suv from 99-07. Cant say for 100% but I dont see why they wouldn't be. The 4l60E transmission fitting size are (what ever -?AN flare to 1/4 NPSM. You will need 2.
Installation tips: First thing is, it gets installed in the same orientation as the OEM one, the transmission line fittings should be pointing to the ground, not towards the sky. This is clearly stated in the directions so I am not sure why people are posting pictures in their review of it the other way (upside down). Secondly, order 2. Reason being, some people have said they installed it and it was leaking. Takes just a tiny pin hole and your done. You wont be able to detect this until your install it, so just have 1 on standby! IF you dont need it send it back. Third, if you plan on replacing/upgrading the transmission hardlines fittings, install the new ones with thread SEALER not loctite!!! Fourth, the hardware brackets that come with it are for a universal kit. There is a gentleman on youtube LsxMatt who talks about someone on a forum page who produces a much better bracket for these. I would 100% advice you to buy it if you are installing this to a GM truck or SUV. Lastly CHECK FOR LEAKS OFTEN AND PERIODICALLY
Hopefully that helps someone out there.
