In regards to house easy these bottles break, yes, they break if you accidentally bang it on a door jam. There is NO dropping this accidentally, there is no forgiveness to any sort of accidents. But I love the bottle and have been using these for about 8 years. When I first discovered this bottle around 8 years ago I think they were sturdier. I remember dropping my first bottle at least 10 times, on pavement, on concrete, on vinyl floor, on carpet, and even banged it on door jams. All of this of course was accidental. But my first bottle lasted about 2 years until I noticed water in between the two walls of the bottle. So, I bought another one, it also lasted a while. Then about 5 years ago I noticed how quickly they cracked and broke. Also, where the two pieces meet at the top (where the threads are) sometimes this is not adhered together well and water gets in between the walls.
I wish Trudeau would take a look at all these comments and fix the problems.
I drop things easily because of arthritis in my hands, I do not mean to do this, but I do. It sucks when I have my water with me, I accidentally drop the bottle (a foot off the floor) and it cracks, or completely broke both layers and water spewed out all over the place. I do not want to be without this water bottle, but I have been searching in the stores for a suitable sub and have had no luck. I need the finger loop carrier because of my arthritis, it is very easy for me to grab this and go.
The little straw mechanism works really well. If you twist the lid, the straw tucks nicely away and the bottle is sealed. It does not leak. The straw is flexible rubber but durable. She has opened and closed the bottle hundreds of times and the straw remains in great shape. The bottle itself is very tough. The plastic can take a beating. The little hook is a nice touch making this bottle applicable for camping or light hiking.
Where I am really impressed is the lid durability. My wife dropped the bottle a few weeks ago from the top of her car. It fell and hit the garage floor at an angle right on the lid. This would have destroyed about 9/10 bottles. In this case, the lid popped slightly off the bottle to where it would no longer turn. She was very upset about the incident because she loved the bottle. I decided to take a good look at it and with a little effort, I was able to get the lid back on. I put it upside down on a flat surface covered by a towel and tapped it with a rubber mallet. The lid popped back on and the bottle works like new. The majority of bottles would not have gone back into shape even if they survived the fall in the first place.
So with great durability and a clever sealing feature that hides a high quality straw, this is a great water bottle and I would definitely buy it again.
