True Blue: My Journey from Beat Cop to Suspended FBI Whistleblower Hardcover – June 13, 2023

4.7 out of 5 stars 220 ratings

As seen on Huckabee

A suspended special agent explains his decision to turn whistleblower and expose FBI politicization and abuse against conservative America.

Stephen Friend had his dream job as an FBI special agent. After nearly a decade of combating violent crime, human trafficking, and child predators, he was reassigned to the FBI’s unprecedented investigation of the political unrest at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. Friend soon uncovered efforts by the FBI and Department of Justice to manipulate statistics and exaggerate the nationwide threat of domestic terrorism. Friend spotlighted how the politicized FBI was cooking the books to support an ongoing narrative from the Joe Biden administration to label Donald Trump voters as violent extremists. Friend witnessed overzealous practices to harass conservative Americans and realized the FBI was turning its investigative processes into a punishment. When the married father of two made his bombshell allegations in a whistleblower disclosure, leaders within the FBI exposed themselves as partisan, ambitious players who insisted that January 6th protestors killed police officers and attempted to seize American democracy. Hell-bent on suppressing Friend from exposing the truth, FBI officials seized his gun and badge and suspended him from working as a special agent. In this memoir, Friend reflects on the lessons and life experiences that led him to ultimately risk his career to uphold his FBI special agent oath to protect and defend the United States Constitution against
all enemies—both foreign and domestic.

“A harrowing account of one man’s journey to change an agency at the breaking point.” -- Dan Bongino, host of The Dan Bongino Show and Unfiltered with Dan Bongino

“Stephen Friend hates bullies. He’s patriotic and driven to service. He’s the prototype of what we all WISH the FBI stood for, but the Bureau’s recent behavior has shown us that our wishes are not reality. This book reveals Steve’s first-hand whistleblower account of the government’s politicized investigation into January 6, and his quality the FBI appears to have lost… integrity.” -- Glenn Beck,
New York Times bestselling author of The Great Reset: Joe Biden and the Rise of Twenty-First-Century Fascism and nationally syndicated radio host

“FBI insider Stephen Friend was ignored and then punished for standing against what he saw as troubling violations of the Constitution committed by the agency sworn to defend it. In
True Blue, Friend digs deep to reveal disturbing details of how FBI leaders have become mired in rank political ideology, ambition, and greed. Most importantly, he uses inspiring real examples to remind us of the good the FBI can do. At a time when few dare to step forward, FBI insider Stephen Friend risked everything to tell the truth.” -- Sharyl Attkisson, Emmy Award–winning investigative reporter

“The FBI is using its expanding and unaccountable authority to target American citizens on the Right. No one inside the bureau is courageous enough to speak out about these abuses—Steve Friend is the rare exception. Friend’s terrifying account of what’s happening in the most powerful law enforcement agency in the world is a must-read. Regardless of political affiliation, every American should be alarmed at the Gestapo-like trajectory of the FBI.” -- Julie Kelly, political commentator, senior contributor to American Greatness, and author of
January 6: How Democrats Used the Capitol Protest to Launch a War on Terror Against the Political Right

“In one taut memoir, Steve Friend reminds us both why FBI agents were once so trusted and admired, and also why they may have lost that trust.
True Blue is an inspiring, intelligent book about the struggle to balance the demands of conscience, citizenship, and work in a fraught political environment. Would that all our public servants took their oaths so seriously.” -- Matt Taibbi, author, journalist, podcaster, former contributing editor for Rolling Stone

“The truth will set you free—unless you work for the FBI. Then it’ll get you in a mess of trouble. Stephen Friend had the courage and integrity to speak up when a once-great police agency started to go bad. He paid the price. Now he tells his story.” -- Andrew Klavan, host of
The Andrew Klavan Show on the Daily Wire

I thought the first third of the book flushed out Stephen Friend’s upbringing that drove his desire to go into law enforcement. The second third of the book shares Steve’s FBI cases. Finally, the last third of the book shares about how Stephen’s standing on personal morals led him to put God and his oath to our U.S. Constitution, ran afoul of the FBI. Like many, he believes that the FBI can not be saved. By now, thousands of FBI Special agents have seen and heard how the FBI abuses its power, yet very few have put their integrity and the U.S. Constitution on the line to become a whistleblower. My analysis is that it’s wrong to say that only those special agents who swore an oath to serve and protect the Constitution of the United States residing on the 7th floor of the FBI building are the bad agents only. No, every agent spreading across every city and state locking up Americans for misdemeanor charges, demonstrate that the only good agents are the whistleblowers! Great and entertaining read. Hope Mr. stephen Friend and his fellow whistleblowers receive justice.

Stephen Friend is nothing short of a hero. It takes a person of conviction and courage to stand up for what is right, even when it comes at a grave cost. Stephen Friend is such a person. This book is phenomenal and clearly exposes the politicized cancer that has infected the once-honorable FBI. I have a personal motto, Praecepti Iuramenti which translates to Oath Before Orders. Stephen Friend clearly internalizes that. He powerfully illustrates the sobering truth that no atrocity or civil rights violations foisted upon people by governments or dictators are possible without the blind complicity of the enforcers...in other words...the cops. All Law Enforcement, like our military, take an oath to "Support and Defend the Constitution of the United States Against All Enemies, Foreign or Domestic." Stephen Friend took his oath to heart. He may have lost his FBI career as a result of his courage, but he can hold his head high and know he did the right thing. I hope one day to meet Stephen Friend, and swap some work stories!

Honesty and integrity is lacking in much of our society today and is void in most if not all of our alphabet agencies and current administration in Washington, D.C. Steve Friend epitomises this rare quality of honesty and integrity and his book, True Blue, reveals what many of us have suspected, that the FBI is a very dangerous and corrupt agency given almost unlimited power doing the bidding of an equally dangerous and corrupt political machine in Washington, D.C. aimed at destroying both the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitutional Republic form of Government which was formed to be subject and answerable to the People of this United States of America.

Overall, a very good account of the FBI's corruption by a whistleblower who refused to carry out unconstitutional SWAT raids on law-abiding Americans. Friend's refusal to carry out unconstitutional orders from the DC regime was no mere "refusal to obey orders"; "just obeying orders" didn't excuse or exonerate the Nazis on trial at the Nuremberg War Crimes tribunal. First, I give this book four stars due to how unnecessary and tedious the part in the book was where Friend wrote out the recorded word-for-word interrogation by two of his superiors and his responses. Second, although most of Friend's solutions at the end of his book are very reasonable, he nonetheless states his belief that it's a good idea for the FBI/InJustice Department to have its massive new training facility in Huntsville, AL. He believes this will help new FBI agents get out from under the corrupt influences of the DC area. In truth, the Alabama facility is in every way the corrupt FBI/InJustice Department's tactic of infiltrating red states; the DC power brokers have proved beyond doubt that they are very determined to infect red states and their conservative constituents with their unconstitutional, radical leftist agenda. For a five star rating, I suggest Mr. Friend publish a new edition of his book in which he summarizes from his recordings the interrogation he was subjected to, perhaps with some pertinent quotes, and that he revisit the true motivations behind the current FBI and InJustice Department's tactics. I speak from personal experience as a crime victim who has herself been on the receiving end of FBI agents and assistant US attorneys brazenly refusing to "put out the money" to enforce federal laws against an interstate stalker who committed serious cyber crimes, interstate religious and business scams, and who made death threats against me and others (that account is found in detail in my own book, Fighting for Justice: Religious Fraud, Mental Illness, and the Collapse of Law & Order).

Not all who get up for work one day and have to sacrifice their lives, safety net, home and money for the rest of us.
But when an American Hero like Steve, step up, it should give us all pause to express thanks.

They are often soft spoken at first, just because it’s the right thing and really hoping those who work for the government will do the right thing too. But when those co-workers choose easy over right, it’s refreshing & enjoyable to hear the stories of those like Steve who’ve still held firm in faith, morally right.

Excellent books make the reader like the main characters. It’s a must read. I walked away from the read wanted to be his friend. Thank you Steve. May God’s grace continue to bless you and your family.
