My name is Alan Toner and I was born in Birkenhead, Wirral. I am a writer of ghost and horror stories, both fact and fiction. I have published volumes 1-5 of my True Ghost Stories books on Amazon, along with a string of other true paranormal titles. Fiction wise, I have also published my short story collections, HORROR STORIES and HORROR STORIES 2. In addition, I have published a werewolf novella, entitled WEREWOLF NIGHTMARE, which is my nod to the old Amicus horror anthology movies that I love so much.

Being a great fan of Hammer films, I have published two titles relating to the studio: HAMMER HORROR REMEMBERED and HAMMER HORROR TRIVIA. In addition, I am currently writing a third book to complete the Hammer trilogy, which will be a Hammer Horror quiz book.

Not ghost stories, but a listing of haunted places. I really expected more, sort of a la the late, great Beth Scott, but some of the "stories" were only a couple of paragraphs long. Many of the "stories" could be restated as (paraphrased and not an actual example from the book): 'This mansion is rumored to be haunted. It was built 500 years ago in the Pacific Northwest of America and is inhabited by a ghostly nun. Many people claim to have seen her.' If you are looking for a list and very short synopsis, this is the book for you. I don't regret buying it, but it was not what I expected at all.

It was a lot of the same. Found that many stories started out with "It's the Most Haunted" they can't all be the MOST. It was interesting, but just too easy to predict what was coming. A few stories were not even believable, because the person telling the story wasn't really even sure if they had their facts correct.

Was rather disappointed as this seems more of a collection of said ghosts in locations rather than ghost stories. There are some stories in more detail however the majority of the book is a list of ghosts and happenings at certain locations. Read the entire book in less than 2 hours.

Die besten Sammlungen mit Geistergeschichten, auch mit solchen "wahren" Geistergeschichten, kommen aktuell immer noch aus Großbritannien. Leider werden diese Bücher selten übersetzt. Und wenn, dann gibt es oft nur eine Auflage, die bald vergriffen ist.
Hier kommt man per E-Book sehr günstig an eine Anthologie von tatsächlich 100 Geistergeschichten.
"Wahr" bedeutet natürlich nicht, dass es irgendwo bewiesenermaßen spukt(e), sondern dass es sich um Überlieferungen und Fälle aus den Medien handelt, nicht um literarische Geistergeschichten.

Wie meistens bei englischen Veröffentlichungen zum Thema Geister wird angenehm auf eine persönlichen Stellungnahme des Autors verzichtet, Alan Toner fasst sachlich zusammen, was er an Material gefunden hat und lässt dabei auch Skeptiker ohne die in deutschen Veröffentlichungen leider oft zu findenden giftigen Kommentare zu Wort kommen.
Das Fazit ist oft: dies wurde berichtet, was dort wirklich geschah, kann man nicht sicher sagen.

Der regionale Schwerpunkt liegt natürlich in GB, aber es gibt auch einige Geschichten aus aller Welt.
Toner verzichtet dabei auf Spiritismus, berichtet also nicht über Seancen, sondern erzählt von Geistern, die von allen möglichen Leuten gesehen oder gehört wurden, manchmal sogar unbewusst. Denn die Geschichte von dem Touristen, der sich in einem Schloss über einen unfreundlichen Geist beschwert, den er für einen Angestellten hielt, ist eine nette lustige Abwechslung.
