I never got the sense that Jamaica was paradise for anyone. Scary in parts -- don't read this if you just going to northern or northwestern Jamaica on a vacation. Kingston and the south coast region is still risky for visitors. I've been to resorts in northern Jamaica and I'm glad I didn't read this book prior to going.
Top international reviews
Cezair Thompson cleverly weaves multiple voices through the novel to present a historical depiction which shows that yesterday's choices are tomorrow's battles and triumphs.
The novel centres mainly around the women in one family tree, and how much history one family can have in a turbulent and beautiful paradise like Jamaica.
