They are a wonderful couple and the whole book is enjoyable and fun to read. It's a great book to curl up, read it, and have a wonderful escape from all your problems.
There are no long winded pages to wade through and the pace is crisp as a winter's day. The people in the book seem real and what they do seems perfectly logical. Nothing is out of place or pace!
This is a great escape book that will leave you with a good feeling and no regrets!
The Marvelous Munroes Series Book One
Genevieve Munroe wants her mother and sister to have a happy Christmas before she tells them the bad news. Her father's death six months ago is about to have her family grieving for more than his loss. Until then, they are back in at Wenwood Abbey for a nice, quiet, happy Christmas. Or not.
Squire Alan Pentercast has made a wager with Gen. Forget the long feud between their two families. He believes he can win a wager and win her hand. Outside forces are going to make that much harder than he thinks.
A fun holiday story. Some unique traditions from the past and very interesting characters. And an added suspense as well. I'm looking forward to the next story with Allison Munroe, Gen's younger sister.
Genevieve and Alan had secretly loved the other for many years. Unfortunately their families had been feuding for generations. They each, in their own way, had planned to put an end to the bitterness. Alan had gone to Genevieve's father for permission to win her hand but the man died in an accident before he could tell his daughter that he approved of the match. Unaware of what transpired, Genevieve had her family return home from their lives in London, to try to encourage Alan to fall in love with her. But things went south before their first night together was over.
I don't think I am giving away any spoilers when everything I tell you happens in the first few chapters. This would have been a very enjoyable light romance if Genevieve managed to act her age. Instead, over the twelve days, she couldn't see all the effort and goodness that Alan put into pursuing her. I knew how it would end but by the time it was over the story lost its' magic. ***Three stars at best for 'okay'.***
