I love history and in reading Anne Bradshaw's book True Miracles with Genealogy ~ Help From Beyond the Veil I was not disappointed with the historical aspects of the genealogical work in these stories. But more than that, I have always loved stories about interactions between the living and the dead. I had always heard little snippets of such stories in church about how relatives and even friends beyond the veil had helped in gathering their information. Anne's book provides a veritable feast of such stories, so I quickly devoured it. Imagine my delight when I found out there was a Volume II!
If you love genealogy, if you feel stuck in your genealogy work, or if you, like me, simply enjoy true stories of interactions between the living and dead, then this book is definitely for you. Even if you only have a passing interest in genealogy you will find this book enjoyable reading because it is well written and compiled. I think Anne Bradshaw did an excellent job in the selections that she chose for this work.

I read this book in spite of some reviews that felt it was too focused on the LDS philosophies, and I agree that it is, but that didn't detract from some of the amazing stories it contains. The book starts out with some very interesting stories, but the last part isn't quite as compelling. Perhaps members of the LDS faith would get more out of it than I did since I don't know much about the temple work that they speak of. Unfortunately, trying to type a review on the Kindle is a frustrating experience as the cursor just seems to behave erratically at times, and had to edit it on my computer.

There is an old saying that "our ancestors want to connect to us" and the many stories of improbable happenings proves that is true, otherwise how could you explain such unusual coincidences and being in the right place at the right time? Fascinating collection of stories, it will encourage you to trace your ancestors and the stories of their lives. There are two books in the series, both are excellent.

Although I do not belong to any formal religion, the people whose stories I read in the book inspired me. Lest you think that these folks are not rigorous or scholarly enough, they go on to document their spiritual insights with regular, worldly, proof.
When you become frustrated by the latest "brick wall", sit down with this book and relax. You don't need to be LDS to enjoy the spirituality and hope that flow from the pages.

I have researched genealogy for many years and found the stories in this book to be interesting and difficult to put down. Some were better than others, but they left me with a good feeling. I'd pick up the Kindle and think I'll just read one short story and before I knew I'd read 3-4. It was just a pleasant group of light genealogy stories that made you feel good. When life gets heavy or your genealogy research hits brick walls you need those stories to give you hope that you'll actually find that long lost ancestor when they are ready to be found.

So very inspiring and open the mind, heart and spirit to so many possibilities. I read this book at a very tragic time in our lives. This little book did open my mind, let me see things in a whole different light. A book of hope, a book of life beyond the grave.

I am not a member of the LDS Church but I have many family members who are. This book not only makes me understand my obsession but why my family loves the hunt for ancestors as well. Even though we may have different reasons for our obsession it is nice to see we all have similar "goose bump" moments. Really liked the book and am looking forward to reading the second one.

I bought this book on my Kindle on Dec 13th and returned it for a refund on the 14th. These are not miracles and a lot of people do genealogy, not only Mormons and I grew to resent this implacation that all genealogists were Mormon and thought that their church was the only reason to do their genealogy. I've been working on my family tree for over 30 years sporadically. I've spent some money and searched a lot, but really could not get into this book at all. I should have realized that "Beyond the Veil" had something to do with the Mormon Church, but I really didn't know that. I know I'm not politically correct here, but I don't want to read another one of these types of books. I was born in MA which is, incidentally, the start of this great nation and there is a world of history that we that have lived there see everyday and don't think of it. Thank you
