Cue a holiday to Ibiza, where she meets and falls madly in love with Michael. The feeling is mutual. The switch from horny woman in control to love at first sight alters the mood abruptly, but is credible. And of course the sex just gets hotter as a result. The author doesn’t hold back on letting us know how hot, either.
Then the story turns into a bit of a suspense thriller, before all is concluded. Do they live happily ever after? Read it yourself!
This is an easy read. The sex scenes are well-written, and all the ingredients of the romance genre are included (except the bit where the wicked first boyfriend gets pummelled). I thought some of it had a fairy tale quality about it, but perhaps that’s no bad thing. And fairy tales don’t always end happily ever after, do they? If you want an upbeat story about love, with a healthy helping of steamy sex thrown in, you will not be disappointed by this book.
The reader should be warned that this book is mostly erotica and as such, long, sexually explicit scenes pepper the story. The novel begins with the heroine having sex with a stranger, then moves on to memories of sex with strangers, and the subsequent love story that develops is mostly sex driven. It is, however, tastefully done erotica.
I was a little put off by the long paragraphs, some of them so long that they ran for four or five kindle screens. The block formatting does not allow indenting for new speakers or for paragraph starts, instead there is a line skipped. This makes it visually awkward and, for me, difficult to follow.
I did like the author’s style of dialogue, and the ‘voice’ she used was pleasant and consistent. There were some long passages that could have used more dialogue instead of narration, especially since this author’s strength is in her dialogue.
That said this story is not all about the sex and in fact presents that in a way which eventually sends a good moral message. Amanda has a pretty average admin day job and a...well let’s just say a lively social life which really takes off when she goes on holiday with her friend, Claire. There she meets and falls for Michael, a bodyguard for a wealthy Russian, and this is where she finds out that sex with feelings attached is really what it’s all about - yay! It’s an awakening for her and for him but after such a short time together both are left trying to work out how they can be together for the long term. However before any plans can be put in place tragedy strikes and it’s touch and go as to whether there will be a future at all.
This book has a good strong storyline with well developed likeable characters. The women are strong and the men suitable heroic when they need to be. I can’t be doing with too much gushing emotion or overwrought feelings between characters and I liked TL Clarks no nonsense writing style which came across as quite matter of fact making the story a realistic one.
What follows is the piercing of her independence as she and Mikhail join bodies and souls. The author writes very well and is very comfortable handling steamy romance/erotica. Due to Mikhail's capacity as bodyguard, villains make their way into the story but I will let the reader explore all of that. Reading it, I had a couple of questions/observations: 1) is there such a thing as love at first sight? I still don't know the answer to that. 2) it was very nice reading the peak moments that Amanda and Mikhail experience--yet sad realizing that many people never experience them and stop even expecting or even thinking about them. I definitely recommend this book.
