I've purchased TruffleHunter White and Black Truffle oils several times. Just a drop of oil has real flavor. White Truffle has a milder taste. Black Truffle is a bold, intense truffle flavor that works well with bold meats like wild game, boar, bear, antelope, or goat meat. A little bit of the oil goes a very long way. I use the truffle oils to sear meats by putting about a teaspoon of truffle oil in the frying pan and then adding at least a tablespoon of olive oil or avocado oil so there is enough oil to sear a family-sized piece of meat. Marinating is great with the truffle oil too! I marinate the meat using truffle oil, salt, and pepper overnight. Use a paper towel to completely dry the meat. Then, use your hands to spread the truffle oil all over the meat you want to marinate. Salt and pepper to taste. Seal in a plastic bag or wrap in plastic wrap - get out the extra air. Put on a plate or in a bowl to catch any drips. Leave in the refrigerator overnight. Cook up at dinner. You can add pretty much any other spice you want to the marinade, even add a tablespoon or so of vinegar if it's a tough cut of meat. Just remember not to add any garlic -- the truffle oil has that flavor covered!

I wanted to buy the big bottle of the stuff, but the bigger bottle had a lot of negative reviews that scared me away (same exact product as this, just literally the bigger sized bottle, more cost effective but higher upfront cost) so I stuck with the small bottle in case it wasn't a good buy. But it IS a good buy. Next time I will be buying the bigger bottle for sure. Some people complained about receiving leaky bottles, but my package was dry and secure. Some people had complained about the flavor. To this I have two comments: Truffle flavor is dank. Its a little gnarly. Its a fungus. A DELICIOUS fungus, but still wild. If you don't KNOW what truffles taste like and have no idea what to expect, this oil has FLAVOR and is not a sautéing oil. Its not your average vegetable or olive oil. And honestly, for truffle oil, this isn't OVERPOWERING. It's actually quite perfect. Which is point 2. A little goes a long way and if you use the right proportions, its SO GOOD. I even ate a few drops plain and no, it didn't knock me off my feet. It is GOOD. But don't add 2 TBSP to your little onion and garlic sautée. Like I said, this oil is for flavor, not function.

If you are looking for a recipe to try it in, I recommend the Potato and Mushroom Al Forno by Jamie Oliver (in his book Ultimate Veg). I used this oil to make it last night (which is what reminded me to write this review) and it turned out really really well. It does take a while to bake, but is a really easy recipe so log as you can wedge some potatoes and onions.

Just the smell alone of this oil is enough to make my mouth water. The bottle is tiny, a little over 3oz. What was nice were the truffle shavings at the bottom (just a few) and it has a luscious garlicky aroma. I made roasted brussells sprouts with it and they were delicious. My only regret is that I had to use more truffle oil than I expected to really taste it in the dish so it's a bit expensive to use regularly.

I like everything about this white truffle oil. I don't like black truffle oil so I can't speak to that flavor. If you prefer white truffle oil you may not like the black (vice versa). They're different flavors so you should first determine which you prefer. For those who think it's too strong, add more oil to help dilute the truffle flavor to suite your taste buds (one size never fits "all"). Been buying this brand for years (from here and from Macy's).
