Lorna has a heart condition that's slated to kill her. When she's given a chance at a heart transplant, she takes it - even knowing that it will likely fail. But not only is it successful, but it turns our sixteen-year-old badass into BADASS ON SPEED. And suddenly, someone wants her dead.
Truly Deadly is a fast paced, action packed, and violent book. Lorna is incredibly funny, bright, and likable. And our plot, odd though it is, is simply a blast to read. You can tell that the author had fun writing this and you'll find yourself having just as much fun reading it.
Now, I do warn you that the sexual situations read a little like a sixteen year old boy's fantasy - it's all bouncing breasts, taut buttocks, and rising ding-a-lings (Lorna's word for the male appendage) - and it's a little weird equating those situations with our heroine. However, given the plot and our heroine's unique condition, they actually make sense.
I also warn you that the book ends on a cliffhanger. But let me tell you, it's a humdinger of a cliffhanger. Suddenly, everything you thought you knew does a 180 and you'll find yourself anxious to read the next book to find out exactly what's going on here.
Pure fun from the first page to the last.
Note: After buying this one, at the end, it allowed me to download a copy of book 2 for free from the author.
Book 2 really got us going and while I am still not sure I can say I love the series, I did finish both books in two days and enjoyed them.
”Sixteen and my life is basically over. And, no, I am not being dramatic”
Mr. Aspinall gives you a Prologue that is from deep with in the book. A teaser, to pull you into reading more to find out exactly how a 16 yr. old could have her life really ending. Suicide? Murder? Accident? ‘Oh me, Oh my what do we have here?’
”I kept the accelarator planted on the floor, doing over a hundred, with the grille of a Range Rover twisted in a tangle of metal to the rear bumper of the ambulance, driven by a grim-faced bitch doing her best to run us off the road.”
Ok, now you have me interested a bit more … why in Hades would a 16 yr. old be flooring an ambulance with another some how attached to it? LOL guess Mr. Aspinall had the right idea after all. Put a thrilling section from deep in the world this teen is living in. ‘Slam, bam, Thank You Ma’am’ kinda way. Which once you begin reading the next section you will just keep on reading.
I was a bit off because I had to adapt my thinking to a European’s thoughts. Some of the words almost threw me off, thinking the spelling was off or worse the 16 yr. old just used slang way too much. But nope, that was not the issue. It was written “breezy old Manchester of England.” Oh, don’t get me wrong, the MC is a 16 yr. old so there sure did use slang & bloody “#” (uggg I get annoyed when it’s hash tag ‘up the wazzoo. Winking smile )
Will I keep on reading this series. Hmm, let me think for a second or soooo … Bloody Hades I will!!!
Mr. Aspinall created an interesting character in Lorna Walker. Plus when you add in a few others, you can see how she will become more & more “well-rounded.” (is that the proper word? Hmm, I really don’t know. But you are watching a 16 yr. old fight to stay alive after receiving a heart transplant.
Lorna doesn’t back down. She puts one foot in front of the other & hauls arse to keep herself alive. As well as others that she knows or has run across in this tail of … mystery, murder, mayhem … how an organization, hidden so deep, wants her dead because of a list. One that curiosity really killed the cat, because that is what caused her to be brought to their attention!
I cannot wait to see what happens to Lorna in the following book, Infinite Kill. To find out if she can trust those she is with, or if it is just some set up to bring her in.
This is really; Sci-Fi for the story that Mr. Aspinall wrote (of course there's the criminal hand attached to a good man and so on) an incredible whole change in a 16 y/o girl.
As the book goes by...Lorna change her manners, language and attitude, sometimes embarrased by masculine things. The characters need a re-vamp also the story and genre.
What was hidden and why her life is in peril although she's now a "Killing Machine"? Just read one book and the cliffhanger doesn't let me think I follow the story.
I'm very honest with my Reviews, not only for me, the author or other readers, how an author know when did something good or need improvement?
How another reader believe in my review? If I didn't read the book, I don't Review. If the book is good, Review. If the book isn't good, Review.
With that we all benefit, readers, authors & readers searching for something new or special. My opinions are my own.
