I met George Plimpton. He was a bore. Egotistical to a fault. Nevertheless his interview with Capote is brilliant and flawless--a work of literary art.
Selma Robertson's 1948 interview with "Little T" is even more creative. I'd never heard of her, but clearly she was an enormously talented essayist.
The point of my rambling is that you need not care a whit about Truman Capote to find this book of essays about him inspiring. It may reawaken in you the belief in the power of great writing. It intimidated me knowing that great essayists like these existed in the late 40s, 50s and 60s--and that most of them never became either famous or rich, despite their talent.
