What I did worry about was the writing style. If the next books were like this, that might be a problem for me. Fortunately, the second book has sample chapters at the end of book 1. There was a clear progression in writing skill. I also took the time to look at book three and book five and saw continued growth in writing style. That makes it easier for me to plunk down money for the next in the series. (Unfortunately for me, this is a space romance, which isn't my favorite genre, but I like the characters.)
Bit is an indentured servant who is paying off her father's debt.
Bit was sold at a young age, along with her older sister, when her father amassed a large amount of gambling debt.
Years later, her sister becomes pregnant but ends up dying during childbirth and Bit has to take on the portion of debt the sister had been serving out. The newborn child also took on a fourth of the debt.
Bit changes masters several times until she is used as collateral in a gambling match and won by Calen, a pilot for the Lenora.
The crew is unsure what to do with a young female indentured servant aboard their ship, but soon she is looked on a family.
Jack, the owner and operator of the Lenora and Calen's older brother, fills out the proper paperwork to take Bit as his servant.
Bit is unsure what to expect when she boards the ship with Calen and the other men from the gambling match. What she doesn't expect is to fill more at home than she ever has.
The crew of the Lenora are cargo haulers, but their latest cargo is more than they have had to deal with in the past.
Pirates, Activists, and Bit's old master battle with the crew throughout their journey, trying to ruin the chances of them delivering it.
The problems the crew faces together just brings them closer together while forcing into light some of the evil lying within them.
Their journey takes an unexpected turn when Bit finds the one person she had vowed to find. The father of her niece or nephew.
She takes off on a journey to search for her long-lost family.
This is where the last book (5th) ends. With Bit finding her niece and another journey about to begin.
I finished all five books within 2 days.
They were absolutely amazing.
I would actually give this book 4.5 stars, but only because there are grammatical and spelling errors.
If those items were to be fixed, it is definitely a 5 star read.
This story is told from several points of view that I would consider more third point of view.
You know when who is speaking, so you are not guessing who is talking at that moment.
Somethings seem repetitive, but considering the nature of the story, it is understandable.
Also, I was a little heartbroken with how some of the characters turned out, but such is the nature of the story.
I tried not to give away too much in my synopsis of the books and I don't want to do that with my review, so I'm not sure what to say about it.
I highly recommend reading it.
The errors I saw were not enough to deter me to continue reading, and trust me when I say I am a very picky reader and that kind of stuff usually turns me off of a book quickly.
I will give one warning to you other readers though, several of the gentleman are vying for the attention of Bit.
Bit starts developing feelings for several of them as well, but eventually she ends up with one.
But I have it under authority from the author that she will be with several different guys during the duration of the series, but only one at a time.
Personally, I'm not sure how I feel about that.
I would either like it to be a reverse harem or she only choose one person and stay with him.
That is just my opinion though and I know it is up to the author on how she writes her characters.
I will still read the series regardless because I love the characters and how things are playing out.
I hope this review helps anyone who is wanting to read these books.
