Jo's story is very enjoyable to read. It has a bit of seriousness and humor. I have to say that I really enjoyed Zach and what he brought to this story. I also felt that Jo's development was handled very nicely. She had always struck me as a bit of an outsider in the other stories and to see the reason brought to light was helpful. Jo's story has a more noticable christian influence, but I believe it was handled well.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a lovely romance!
These books have all had some negatives for the characters to overcome, but overall they are happy books with the required happy ending. The main reason they are happy stories is that the male love interest in each story is overwhelmingly happy, kind, considerate, and goes out of his way to do and say the right thing at all times and to be helpful to his love interest. After awhile, they seem fairly interchangeable except for their appearance, and talk and act more like one would expect one's best female friend to do. It challenges the imagination to propose a number of men like this in one small Western town. It's not that the author cannot write male characters. There are a variety of other men in town who have different characteristics and personalities. But, having said that, it does make for a comforting and happy book. Again, the mold will need to be broken for the next story featuring Gabriel Silversmith, since he does not possess any of these qualities.
Some of the earlier books were quite fluffy and light, but this seemed to me to have more substance. It was fun and worth reading. And the Christian conversion was a nice inclusion. I also appreciate the covers, which have been terrific.
The setting felt so vivid and the characters seemed like real people to me as I read. There were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and tears-in-my-eyes-moments. Action, adventure, and some super scary villains made this such an engaging novel.
The Truth About Love gets to the heart about what love is, including the awesome power of God's love for His people. Did you ever finish a book and just feel ... blessed by it? This is that kind of book. I loved it.
I think this may have been my favorite of the series, because of Jo's unique backstory and the huge journey she took, not just across the country, to find and accept love. Time to reread the whole series while I wait for the next book!
I received an advanced reader copy for the purpose of review.
