There are a lot of great, fun ancedotes about famous people from all walks of life, along with some personal observations and opinions about American politics, entertainment, etc. that I believe at 77 years old, King has a right to share. I was fascinated by all this man has seen and all the people he has known/interviewed since starting his first radio show in 1957. He gives a hat-tip to Jackie Gleason for helping him become the big name he is.
It was also very intersting to read how broadcasting has changed since cable networks have entered the scene. He was being asked to do tabloid type stuff and he wasn't comfortable with that, especially after having had a taste of that in his own personal life. He makes a strong case for what is news and what isn't, and unless you're an elected official, personal lives should be off-limits unless a person decides to share and/or come clean about personal matters. I admire him for not wanting to delve into personal matters unless invited to do so. And it does cause serious thought about the future of "news" broadcasting with the further addition of the Internet.
Above all things, this is a fun book to read. I loved it! King is an excellent storyteller and, boy, does this man have stories to tell! I would love to hear more of them. I love the idea of him doing a stand-up comedy routine. After all, he saw the greats in action way back in the day, so I think he'll do a great job. I would definitely go see his show if I had the opportunity. I am also impressed at his generosity, which he doesn't really feel he deserves being thanked for. I believe the receipents of heart surgeries would beg to differ.
This is a great, fun, entertaining book by a man who has pretty much seen everything. The book is written with much humor and grace. It is also heartwarming and just brimming with life--at 77 King remains curious and energetic, he has sooo many questions he'd still like to ask! Overall, a wonderful look into the king's career and life. I think it'd make the perfect book pack for vacation. Thoroughly entertaining.
He's no jim leher never was a presidential or go moderator even though he's better than Gwen from one carol Simpson candy Crowley Bernie Shaw thanks for his off base questions cost Dukakis a lot of votes and Martha radtz
What else would you expect? A familiar romp through another Larry King tome. No surprises. No real confrontation. Just an enjoyable reminiscence of what must have been a great and greatly interesting life.
Read it...live vicariously through Mr. King. Rub shoulders with names you know and wish you knew better.
