The Dares are age-appropriate, and do not sound or feel trite like a lot of other devotionals I've read for girls. Very introspective thoughts, but great for sharing in a trusted group, like our own family of girls. :0) I asked my daughters if they ever really thought about their spiritual life in this way before doing these devotions together, and they all answered no. These are pivotal ages for setting a foundation for a real relationship with God, and not just going through the motions, or reading the Bible because it's what is expected. I believe any girl using this book could deepen (or begin!) a real relationship with the Lord.
The cover is enticing for the age group, making them want to open it and see what is inside. The daily reading and message are short, plus a journaling portion, then there is the "dare" part of each lesson. A triple dare each day to further explore God's Word and put God's Word in action in her everyday life in fun and creative ways.
My 10 year old daughter loves this book! She said after the first day that "it make me want to read ahead and do more". She does these devotion lessons without me having to tell her. She has really enjoyed completing the "dares".
I wish the cover didn't say "for ages 9-12" because my 16 year old was very interested in it. I'd love to see something similar for older girls.
Thanks so much to B and B Media Group for sending me this book for my review.
This book has a great lay-out. At the beginning of each day's devotion, there is one verse for the girls to read. Then there's a short story or illustration to go with it. That's followed by a Dare: a way to apply the Truth to their thoughts that day and then a triple-dog dare that helps girls bring what they've learned down to their everyday lives. At the end of the page there's a short journaling session. The book reads like they're sitting down with a big sister or older friend, and gleaning from her faith and experience. My daughter (11) is doing this solely on her own and because she wants to. I love that!
