Review

“It’s clear from the beginning that all the snark between Tyler and Maggie is masking a powerful attraction that they both wish to ignore. Every time they resist just makes every time they give in that much hotter (and sweeter).”Library Journal

Truth or Dare is a sexy, heartfelt story about hard choices, sweet temptation, and forever love!”USA Today bestselling author Tina Wainscott

“I so enjoyed this book! Incredible tension, a great cast of characters—undoubtedly all ready for their books—some very funny moments and lines (‘Friends don’t let friends take their wine home in a baggie’!) and some really gooey emotional conflict.”—Molly O’Keefe, author of Indecent Proposal

“Delicious tension, raw emotion, and plenty of heat make Truth or Dare a sexy, witty read.”—Elisabeth Barrett, author of the Star Harbor series

“Mira Lynn Kelly is a master storyteller, and she proved it again here. She crafted unforgettable characters that wormed their way into the reader’s heart. You could never go wrong reading one of her books!”The Romance Reviews

“A sweet and witty romance. I’m looking forward to the second book in the Dare to Love series, Touch & Go.”—Love Between the Sheets

Truth or Dare set its tone in the beginning, showed us how it was going to accomplish all of it, and delivered on all its promises magnificently. . . . A perfect light read (with loads of steamy scenes included).”—Sleepless Romantics

“I enjoyed this novel immensely, and I want to read the other books in the series. Mira Lyn Kelly is a new favorite with this novel alone. . . . I rated this book an easy five stars, with absolutely no doubt in my mind. I can’t state enough that this book is amazing, and I can’t wait for the next one.”—A Million Pages, A Million Worlds

“I absolutely loved this book. And I’m champing at the bit [to see] Ava and Sam’s story in Touch & Go!”—Smitten by Books

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This story really isn't my cup of tea....but it did have some redeeming qualities.
Pros: The hero, Tyler, isn't your typical man whore found in most of these UA Romance Novels. On the contrary, he is not an A hole, but a nice guy who wants to do the right thing and be there for his "family". I also liked Maggie, the heroine. She was smart, funny and sweet. The two of them had great chemistry. The other thing that I liked about the book is that it didn't have a cliffhanger ending and had a HEA. Now for the Cons: The writing just didn't flow well and there were a lot of words missing in the dialogue which made for a challenging and less enjoyable read. Further, the title of the novel didn't fit the story line---at all. I also didn't really get the whole monthly date bet going on between Ava and Maggie and thought it was rather stupid. Additionally, Ava, her brother, and his friends were way too involved in Maggie's personal life- Maggie's attempt at a romance with Ava's brother/her landlord was pathetic. As for Tyler, although I liked his personality and playful banter with Maggie, he was just too much of a doormat as far as Gina was concerned. He put up with her actions (or lack thereof) for far too long. I was aggravated by the whole situation.

This fabulous romance is the story of Maggie and Tyler. When Maggie goes to welcome her new upstairs neighbour into the building, their relationship starts off completely on the wrong foot and the antagonism seems destined to keep them apart - until in desperation Maggie turns to Tyler to help her from losing out on a dating bet she made with a friend. Underneath all that animosity is a spark of attraction that when let loose, threatens to overcome all their defences and lead to something intense and wonderful - if they can let go of the baggage from their pasts and claim a new future together.

I loved this story! I thought the plot was really unique - Tyler is a determined, loyal and forthright man, willing to sacrifice his own future happiness in order to be there for the boy he's loved since birth (who turns out not to be his biological child) even if he knows that the boy's mother is not the woman for him. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, his attraction to Maggie is all the more intense for it's forbidden pleasure, that he can't give her the future that she wants but he can't stop himself from desiring her either. You really feel for Tyler and the position he is in. Maggie is an equally engaging character, feisty, flirty, full of life and longing to be with someone who will be true to her. She knows that Tyler is holding himself back from her and that a future with him is not in the cards, but the sexual chemistry between them leads her to the acknowledgement that even if it's just for a short time, she is willing to be with him. The love scenes between them are sensual, erotic and emotional as they try to fulfill their desires for each other without committing their hearts - a task that proves impossible as their relationship develops over the course of the story.

So this group of friends hang out together and invade each other's space and just walk into each other's apartments and I'm thinking, "Eww, is this like "Friends?" There is even a Friends reference to Ross. So there's that. At that point, I thought I may not read the rest of this book. But I did. The new guy in the picture is Tyler and he and Maggie seem to have an immediate love/hate thing going on. That has some potential. But, the reason he can't commit is a bit creepy to me. If I was Maggie and he told me the story of his ex, I'd be all like, "Seriously, dude? Don't you know she's playing you?" The end of the book is kinda sexist in that paternal rights movement kind of way. So yeah, loved the funny dialogue, which was very sit com stuff, and there was some hot stuff in the erotic scenes, but have to admit I skipped ahead to the foregone conclusion.

Loved it!! This is an incredibly well written story filled with great emotion. Lots of humor, angst, and sexy times. The group of characters are wonderfully developed and left you feeling like you had a new group of friends. The H/h, Tyler and Maggie, have a rocky start but whether either of them like it or not the attraction is there. However, past hurts and big secrets make a relationship impossible.

This is a fantastic beginning to what appears to be a great series. Can't wait for the next book. I highly recommend this one for everyone.

The premise of the book is as absurd as it is amusing.

“You intentionally go out on bad dates to protect guys from getting their feelings hurt, and so your friend can find the romance you aren’t interested in. Maggie, you know that’s nuts, right?”

From the get-go our heroine Maggie and hero Tyler rub each other the wrong way. For the first 25% of the book they are so busy gleefully bickering like children that they haven’t yet realized how much they truly enjoy each other’s company. Or that all of that angst is riddled with ever-building sexual tension. Eventually they call a truce, at least attempt to fall into a comfortable friendship, and that’s really where the story starts.

Written from dual perspectives, both of the main—as well as the secondary—characters are multifaceted and fairly well fleshed out. The book is built on a framework of realistic friendships, in fact much of how we get to know Maggie is through the interactions with her friends. Tyler takes quite a while longer to open up, so much so that through out a great deal of the book I was torn between curiosity and frustration wanting to know more about him.

From the very beginning it is clear that both Maggie and Tyler have serious aversions to forming romantic relationships. Without going into spoilers I will say that both their reasonings—although a bit unusual—are believable and make sense.

All in all this is a book about friendship, family, and love. Engaging, entertaining, and at times alternately arousing and laugh out loud funny. I definitely have a new author to add to my must-read list.

**For the sake of full disclosure it must be stated that I received this book, free of charge, from Netgalley.**
