Love & Ruin Series:
The Torn Series:
J.A. Owenby has outdone herself! The Truth She Knew is a beautifully written, thought provoking story that will leave you wanting more. The feelings and emotions come through page after page, and I while I could not put the book down, I also didn t want it to end. Lacey, Walker, and Mama are engaging, believable, and authentic. I found myself talking to the book to the characters giving them advice, laughing and crying along with them. Only the most talented of authors can bring out such strong emotions in their work. While this is not my normal genre, I am very glad that I took the opportunity to step outside of my standard choices. I cannot wait to get back to Lacey in book 2! I don t want to give away too much of the story, but you will definitely want to read this book! --Sarah Jones
I'm in love!! I could NOT put this down and I read the entire book in half a day! Lacey and Walker are so authentic and easy to relate to. I could see the entire book unfolding, like a movie, in my head. The plot was easy to follow, but not predictable. The descriptions were clear and not long winded. This book, this Author, made me cry, laugh, get angry and get happy. All the emotions you expect and want in a moving, wonderful love story. Great job! --Nancy Harvey Schnaufer --This text refers to the paperback edition.

To make it worse, once I got over that part of the story, I flipped maybe four or five more times and BOOM! First book is over. Not even so much of a cliffhanger, it was just done. I don't think I will bother with the next books in the series, and the synopsis and reviews lead me to believe that a lot of the issues in book 1 won't be resolved.
Owenby's writing is crazy gripping... As an English major in college, I would read all the time but since graduating and getting busy with 'real life,' I'd forgotten how much I actually enjoy reading... until I picked up her book. Snuggling up in a blanket with some tea to read about Lacey's (emotional, scary, romantic) journey quickly became my favorite nightly routine, so I'm thankful Owenby has other books out too.
The character Mama was terrifying and heartbreaking, and it's tragic to think that there are many abusive parents out there who leave children feeling alone, stupid, unwanted, and utterly unloved and unlovable. This story was a reminder to me that you never know what someone is going through behind the front they put up every day, and that small kindnesses, encouragements, and even seemingly small friendships can matter, a lot.
I can't wait to read books two and three, and hopefully find out wtf went on in Walker's head!!! I went from wanting to have a Walker the whole book to wanting to STRANGLE HIS HANDSOME LITTLE NECK. Anyone who's had a first love can totally relate, so much that you might cry a little (okay, I cried a little... okay I cried a lot!).
Long story short... read the book!
Becky (40, employee) kind of took her under her wing.
Walker Tate Farren had asked Lacey Anne Beaumont (college student) out.
Her mother already warned her about him.
What did Lacey reveal to Walker about herself?
Fast forward; Lacey (18), & Krissy’s (23, sister, college student) went to visit Lynn Beaumont (their mom).
She was in a ICU room all hooked up to a lot of state-of-the-art life support machines.
Dr. Snider was the attending physician.
What happend with Walker & Brittany?
What did the letter say that Lacey Beaumont received?
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written psychological thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great psychological thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. It was just OK for me so I will rate it at 4/5 stars.
