I absolutely adored Ben. Ellie and her son Ben return home to Kansas from New York after Ellie experiences a traumatic event. Back at home on the ranch with her dad also sees her back around Dell, an employee on the ranch. It seems that Ellie had a crush on Dell before she left to experience the big city. Dell has always had a thing for Ellie. Throw a little suspense in along with the most adorable five year old you will ever read about and you get the Truth of Us. Is it finally time for Ellie, Dell and Ben (whose father is deceased) to be a family or will something or someone take Ellie away from Dell forever? The story has a good blend of romance, Ben and mystery so happy reading.

Ellie leaves New York with her small son, Ben to return to where she grew up in Kansas. It is there that she reconnects with Dell. With Dell, we get not only a cowboy, but also a sheriff. I enjoyed the book a lot at times. I did feel like parts of it were rushed a bit. Maybe instead of mostly paragraphs, a little more dialogue between the characters would have been nice. There were a few moments where I would have liked a little more detail and development. It fell a little short at times.
Samantha was an interesting side character, and then all of a sudden she wasn’t. Normally when I read suspense, I like to find clues along the way to keep me guessing, but I found nothing that suggested what happened was going to.
Here I am pointing out things that I didn’t enjoy so much, but even so, I still liked the book. I read it from beginning to end. I loved slugger and his role in the end. The epilogue was beautiful and perfect. I have read other books from this author and loved them, so maybe this was just not meant for me to enjoy so much. “No two people read a book the same.” I look forward to reading more from this author!

The premise for this story was great! There were a few surprises for me, as I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was proven wrong. I love when an author can do that!

Ben is an adorable little boy in the book. The author captured his cuteness without bogging down or taking away from the story with his character. The main part of the book was set in Kansas and the author seemed to really nail the jargon, slight accents, and pace of the town. Often times I wondered if this was her hometown.

Ellie is an independent character but I don’t feel like I know too much more about her. She had some tough situations but because I didn’t really feel like I knew the character, I wasn’t as invested in her feelings as I thought I should be. Dell is handsome and caring. The author built up his feelings toward Ellie nicely. This could have seemed like an insta-love (which I personally am not a fan of), but it was written very well to show that his feelings have been there for a long time.

The major part of the conflict in the story felt, to me, that it was a bit forced in order to have some sort of conflict. In any case, however, it kept me guessing and a bit on edge suspicious of everyone.

I look forward to reading more books by this author!

The idea for this story was really good, and for the most part it rang true, only when it didn’t flow it did lose me. I love reading descriptions and characters backgrounds, and am all for less is more in some cases but it this case there just a little too much less; it was confusing at times and I lacked character connection which I really love in my reading. However, that being said, I did love the idea and Ben was mega cute. I just would have wanted things to connect up together more, or not be as twisty and not be explained in greater detail. I enjoyed this book, but it just fell short for me. I’d definitely read another story from this author though.

This book was sweet, suspenseful and who doesn't like a hot sheriff in a cowboy hat, boots and jean? Seriously! Dell and Ellie have known each other most of their lives but lost touch when Ellie decided to move to New York after high school. She left behind the ranch in Kansas and left Dell without expressing her true feelings for him. After tragedy strikes her life she moves back home and Dell is there. She doesn't just have her heart to worry about she also has her 5 year old son Ben to worry about. Can she let her heart go? Can she leave her life in New York to be with Dell?

Ellie goes back home with her son after life in New York is no longer safe for them and finds herself face to face with Dell, they boy who worked in her farm all those years ago.
Dell is now the town sheriff and still manages to swing by the farm.
The book had a good storyline and the scenes with Dell and Ellie were sweet, as were those between Dell and Ellie’s son, Ben. I felt like some things were a little rushed, and I would have liked to see more dialogue between the characters, but overall it was an enjoyable read.
