Tai Chi is a gentle exercise proven to strengthen muscles, improve stamina, blood circulation, balance and relaxation. As there are many forms of Tai Chi, this introductory program is designed to give you a taste of two of the most popular forms. You can learn it easily and will soon experience its health benefits and enjoyment. Being the easiest program created by Dr. Lam thus far, it contains forms from the Tai Chi for Arthritis, Diabetes and Beginners programs. You can practice this set to improve health as well as use it as a guide to choose one of the above programs for further progress. Dr. Paul Lam, a family physician in Australia, is a world leader in the field of Tai Chi for health improvement. His Tai Chi programs have helped people improve their health and well being. He is also a past international competition gold medalist (Beijing 1993) and an author of several books on health and Tai Chi.
Try Tai Chi is an easy, slow-paced, gentle introduction to Tai Chi, designed for beginners. Dr. Paul Lam starts with a slow, extended warm-up, set in what looks like a community center, with a variety of people--mostly seniors--who look excruciatingly solemn. Lam cues for the participants, not the viewer, so you have to reverse his "left" and "right" instructions. Then he progresses to a five-movement set, which is shown both facing Lam and following behind him or another demonstrator for ease of learning. Lam instructs slowly and thoroughly. Don't look for high-tech production here or much motivation or warmth, just a quiet and capable introduction to this ancient art. This video, which contains segments from Lam's Tai Chi for Arthritis, Tai Chi for Diabetes, and Tai Chi for Beginners, is best used for practice in conjunction with a class. --Joan Price
