About the Author
Jenn Thorson always knew she wanted to be a writer; it was the C+ in Penmanship that initially held her back. By the age of 11, she'd written her first mystery novel, Key to the Blue Moon, which her secretary— er, Mom—was good enough to type up for her. It was a raging hit among the two people she knew. Spurred by her dramatic success, she went on to write other works, an experience that found her cluing into the Mystery genre, flirting with the Melodramatic Teen style, and becoming better versed in the Embarrassing Poetry of Which We Shall Never Speak Again school of writing. Yet, oddly, no one stopped her from attending Carnegie Mellon University for Creative and Professional Writing. And it was here she discovered that humor was in her heart. This was a surprise, since the funny bone usually gets so much press. Soon Jenn graduated from Carnegie Mellon and, with an inconvenient bent toward eating regularly, she took a job as a technical writer for a software development company. In the years that followed, she would move from the joys of explaining where the File menu was, to managing the marketing of the company's product line. Marketing, she realized, involved a gleeful combination of Making Stuff Up and Actually Getting Paid for It; so she became a full-time marketing writer and project manager in a local advertising firm. She also continued to hone her fiction, and her first published story, "The Last Great Play of Rosie Cosnowski" made its way into the Timber Creek Review. Since those days, Jenn Thorson's stories have been published in the Humor Press, the magazine for the Lewis Carroll Society of North America, and Romantic Homes magazine. Her books currently include There Goes the Galaxy, The Purloined Number and Tryfling Matters.

I highly recommend reading the trilogy in order. However, if you're free-styling rebellious type, TRYFLING MATTERS can be read, and understood, as a free-standing novel - bound to be the next great American science fiction novel.
'She held up her red file folder, the one that she’d filled with random papers from the recycling bin. In her first day on the job, she’d learned that carrying a high-visibility file folder and walking briskly was an important tactic in covert office operations. It virtually guaranteed an undisturbed path anywhere she wanted to go. Of course, much like the fake hall passes of her youth, it was important never to abuse the folder’s power.'
'Hanging up his coat, he felt disappointment cling almost as heavily as the teenage fug coming from Locker Thirty-Two. Bertram had prepped for battle. He’d braced for the worst. It was strangely difficult to shift his mindset from blood-bath to bouncy castle.'
'Rollie, that’s the beauty of it. Hardly anyone knows. This is the U.S. Not knowing anything about the rest of the world is practically a badge of honor here. You’ll be golden.'
I had not been a huge fan of humorous science fiction until being introduced to There Goes the Galaxy. I fell in love with the quirky characters, pithy and dry comedy, and sparkling story lines. Each has been a bigger delight than the previous and I definitely give this book a gold star recommendation.
Be prepared to laugh out loud (always a sign of a fantastic book!). And if you haven't read the earlier two, I'd read those first (although I think you could jump right into Tryfling Matters and enjoy it as a standalone.
I cannot wait to see what Ms. Thorson comes out with next. She's a fantastic writer so whatever it is, I'll be looking for it.
So, I was going to write this review before I found that out. I wanted to be sure to book-end my reviews, after giving a 5-star to the first in the series. The entire series is work the read, and your time. It's entertaining, different, fun, as deep or as lighthearted as you want to make it.I was never thinking ahead saying "ok, get to the part where x is going to predictably happen." Because it wasn't predictable, and in a good way, not an annoying, oh, I'm going to try to outsmart the reader way.
Read it. It will make you giggle. And wonder when the movie is coming out. And knowing that the movie if going to be great, but will never be as goodf as the book. Because, well, I doubt any amount of CGI will do justice to a Feegar.
