There are a myriad of emotions a parent faces such as how do I get my teen to talk to me? How can I trust them? How much discipline is too much? How can I monitor them without smothering them.
The emotions and fears are endless...
Author and Parenting Expert C. Lynn Williams has provided a solution for parents with teens.
Trying to Stay Sane While Raising a Teen will equip and empower you to become the best parent that you can be while raising a well-adjusted teenager in the 21st century.
It is possible for you to stay sane while raising a teen and you will learn how after reading this book!
The book covers the importance of consistency, listening, parenting versus friendship, and many other topics. There was a piece on parent timeouts that particularly spoke to me. The author is candid with her own mistakes and how difficult proper parenting can be.
Also, the book focuses quite a bit on parenting when divorced or single. I'm fortunate that neither applies to me, but I think it would be extremely useful to others facing this situation.
Busy parents will also appreciate that the book is short and concise, no wasted fluff. However, there were times I wanted more and thought the book only skimmed the surface. Still, the fact that I wanted more details and advice says a lot.
If you are looking for some faith-based parenting tips, pick this book up. You can read it over breakfast and be ready to start your day with a new parenting attitude.
Note: I received a complimentary copy as a World Literary Cafe reviewer. A positive review was not guaranteed or asked for; my opinions are my own.
Ms. Williams also describes her personal need to involve a dialogue with God while facing some of the more overwhelming decisions she needed to make with her children. She reinforces this approach with multiple biblical references at the end of the primer. Although some readers may not be comfortable with this inclusion in the primer, it is reasonable to assume that parents don't always have the answers they need and may take comfort in advice from another source! Of course as a psychologist, I would also recommend consulting a professional when parents are at a loss when confronting serious issues with a teen.
What I really appreciate is C. Williams' inclusion of prayer and faith when dealing with the more difficult moments of parenting- something that's missing in households these days.
I would highly recommend this book!
I enjoyed this quick read and will file away some of the advice for later use. I wish the author would have used more specific personal examples and gone into a little more in depth with the topics. I really liked how the book was written like a friend talking to you over the phone, easy and sensible.
I would recommend this book to those that have a faith-based focus when raising your children.
