I actually gave this 3.5 stars
The story follows a gun for hire who has been brought in to clean up a town in the old wild west. This is a departure from the authors previous works. While still a book about a cowboy, or in this case an out-law turned good, it's not set in the modern day and is more of a action/suspense book then a romance. Although there is definately love afoot after the first few chapters, and spankings.
The cast of characters each have their own personalities, although some are fairly predictable. Duke, the man on a mission to save his town but lacking the ability to do so. Dolly - Duke's spolied brat daughter that can't follow a rule to save her life. The Sheriff - who just can't seem to control the crime or Dolly. The McGill brothers - standard thugs who are trying to take over in standard gangster style. And Tucker - the muscled gun slinger who works in mysterious ways - the biggest mystery being how he went from rabble rouser to good guy for hire.
The story has a steady pace between the budding, and distracting, romance and the tension/action of Tuckers antics in town. The book was a quick read with a few twists to make you wonder just where the story was going. I finished it in a few hours. It will be interesting to see if the next book in the series is about Duke and mysterious woman who helped raise Dolly or about Lucy and her boyfriend who seemed to be an unwilling participant in the McGill brother's heists. Or maybe Rose finds a nice man to help her run the inn. The book sets some good groundwork for a series, the qestion is where will it go from here.
Duke Baker has been lived in Spring Junction area since it started. Threats to the residents and businesses have become so dangerous; he knows that something has to change, or there will no longer be a town that people will stay in, and even he will need to leave his ranch and home if things do not improve. Dolly Baker has been ordered to stay near the family home by her father, Duke, and she hates not being able to go to town or roam the land freely. Tucker Prescott has been called to the town of Spring Junction by Duke after the town is overrun with lawlessness and now extortion from two Irish brothers and their cohorts.
The plot of this story brings in Tucker Prescott with his plans to rid Spring Junction of the McGill brothers, along with all their henchmen. How he does it is what makes this story so fascinating and entertaining.
The interaction between Dolly and Tucker is the beginning of a relationship, even if she is a brat and he takes her in hand, many times. The various characters we meet in the story all add a charming touch. The story is very entertaining, fully of angst, adventures, gunfights, plans gone awry, a little romance, and resolution for the townsfolk. There are several spanking scenes and a mild sex scene.
I look forward to the next story in the Wild West Cowboy Series. Also, I had read this book for a voluntary review but have also purchased it to have on my Kindle to be able to read again.
