The quality of the boot is just fine for the price point, but I found the sizing confusing (and the lack of a clear explanation in the comments even more confusing). It is important to clarify what the sizes mean:
Sizes 8 through 13 are for TODDLERS (for example, my 3 year old daughter, who wears 3T clothing, also wears a size 8 in Toddler shoes).
Sizes 1 through 5 are for SMALL KIDS.
There were a lot of customer comments that claimed the shoe ran small. My 3-year old daughter typically wears a size 8 in toddler shoes, but based on the comments we decided to size up, and bought a 10. The boot was too big. She is a size 8, and these run true to size, so we've decided to get her a size 8 as well.
Bonus note: Her trainer mentioned that the traction line near the ball of the foot helps keep her foot were it belongs on the stirrup. Guess I need to include a photo - As you can see the traction is not enough to 'lock' the foot in the stirrup.
Our daughter pretty much only rides in summer when we visit her grandparents, so spending close to $100 on a boot she'd wear for a couple of months just was NOT going to happen.
She really loved these because they were zip up and helped her keep her heels down in the stirrups of her English saddle without needing a knee-high boot that would have been hot in summer. These cleaned up nicely with just a damp old rag and didn't have a deep/thick tread that held a lot of dirt and debris. Not having laces to get dirty was another big plus on these.
They run pretty true to size, maybe a tad on the small size. So if your child is close to being at the end of a size, go ahead and order a size up. We did that and were just fine with a regular pair of socks (no need to double-up or anything).
This second pair just went through a half week at equestrian day camp. When they were delivered, we noticed some creases on the right sides of both boots. Looks like the stitching/leather bunched up a bit when the cobbler made them. We didn't have time to return them because they were purchased in an emergency. They went through three days. After cleaning them up, the creases are a bit worse (picture). I don't think they will make a year this time. We will continue to buy because they are a deal and serve the purpose well. But if we had the time, we would have returned them. And if these were at our local equestrian store, they wouldn't have been even put on the shelf for sale by the merchant.
