Our closet is full of Tumi luggage; have always loved the quality and longevity. Eventually it does wear out if you travel a lot!
We wanted lightweight and substantial luggage with four wheels. This bag is beautiful-as long as you don't fly with it! One flight and and it was badly scratched! It looked five years old.
The hanging side isn't designed well. And the cross strap doesn't keep clothes in the position I packed them. It's not Tumi quality I have known and relied on for the past decade.
    I returned this bag.

My wife is a professional photographer. She has traveled the world over for the last decade solely with Tumi luggage. The vapor line has been fantastic to her. I was going with her on a trip to Kenya and decided to get some new luggage. We bought 6 pieces. We are returning all 6. Reasons from least important to most:

    1. The lock is upside down. They didn't even bother to swap the dials. To open it you must find a way to read upside down from right to left inverted in dimly lit rooms. If you open the case while the lock is upright, all of your stuff will fall out. This may not seem like much on the surface, but every Tumi bag up until this point has the lock on the correct side. They could have even just flipped the numbers on the dials and that would have been fine, but on a 1K piece of luggage they chose not to.
    2. After a single trip, the luggage looks worse than our 10-year-old other Tumi pieces. It looks 15 years old!
    3. There is no lock on the front pouch. They took up a TON of real estate with the front pouch and then gave you no way to protect the contents. You must purchase and remember to bring a secondary lock.
    4. The zippers do not match. You do not know which ones you will get. One is flawed (a flattish-looking one). I believe that they had an "oh crap" moment and changed the zipper mid-production. If you get the flat one, then it is very easy to latch one side incorrectly, making the other side not fit in.
    5. This is the big one. The new front pouch is not only a point of weakness, but a point of failure. Loading a mid-sized case with 70 lbs of heavy goods while flat seems great. If the entire case is hard, like the vapor line, then nothing shifts when you turn it vertical.

I have been a Tumi fan for many many years so when it came to buying a light weight piece for a two month trip, I did not hesitate to fork over top dollar for the Tegra-Lite. Big mistake.

I could not agree more with the two reviewers who commented on the horrific experience. I, however, can not be as generous as to give it two stars. The quality control department at Tumi must have been off when the company rolled out this product.

After one trip, the piece looks like it has been to a war zone. It is dented and scratched all over. Not only that, you know all the stickers the airlines put on it? You can't really just peel them off like with most other luggage. They are stuck there for life unless you go out and get some of those sticker removal gels or pour some wax on it or something. I am furious.

Let me start by saying I have had numerous TUMI pieces, some of them nearly 20 years old. Each of those pieces still look better than this piece after only one round trip. The "plastic" or whatever material it is, looks rippled, scratched, and overall terrible. Yes, it is lighter than their ballistic nylon, but it clearly does not hold up as well. I am going to attempt return this piece. Extremely disappointed.

Please heed this warning. IF YOU PLAN ON CHECKING YOUR LUGGAGE, DO NOT BUY. Background: I am a loyal Tumi customer. I have small bags, big bags, toiletry bags and even a Tegra-Lite carry on. I read the reviews here on Amazon, then went to Tumi and decided to disregard the warnings after the salesperson there told me the bag was a newer release and "fortified." The bag was stunning so I went for it. After I arrived at my destination (maiden voyage for my bag) it came onto the carousel looking completely beat up. I barely even recognized it. It was scratched everywhere, lint and dirt was stuck to it, and I could barely peel the stickers off when I got to my hotel. By the time I got home (two flights later for a grand total of three flights) the bag practically had a hole in one of the sides and it looked very old and worn. Even though it was in the 30 day time frame the store was a bit hesitant to take it back. I had pictures and planned to run it up the chain had they declined. Luckily I did not have to do that. I am really disappointed in Tumi. They should be pulling all these bags from the shelves. It is completely sub par and the line should be used for carry on only (I do love that bag- checked it once and never will again though...)

finish on the outside lasts as long as you don't put it on the plane. After one trip the suitcase would scratched and creased, not worth all the money Tumi charges.

Caution! The retractable handle sticks in the open position. This creates an extreme inconvenience when trying to store the luggage in the overhead compartment on an aircraft with people lined up behind you. The only way to retract the handle is to empty the contents, unzip the liner, and use a sharp object to release the mechanism. This is a very expensive piece of luggage to fail in this manner after only a few usages. I'm still trying to reach customer service. I sent them an email through their website and have never heard back. I called their contact number only to be told I had the wrong department and that the department I needed was closed anyway. For your sanity and pocketbook, I strongly urge you to avoid Tumi products.
