Before this purchase, I had to avoid putting my son's favorite snack, a banana, in his backpack for an at school snack because by the time he took it out to eat it, it was beaten brown and mushy by his water bottle! But now I can send bananas of all shapes and sizes (haven't found one yet that won't fit) and they're pretty and yellow when he gets to them! Closes securely, which is good. It's a little large but that's the only way it'll accomodate various sizes of fruit! Overall, love it. Buying another for the other son!

I got this for my mom because she likes to chop half a banana for oatmeal in the morning and save the other half for a peanut butter/jelly/banana sandwich for later that night (it's really good). First we got the clip style banana keeper but that one requires you to literally slice the banana in half, peel and all, to use. This one is large, but sometimes those bananas look like they are on steroids so I do prefer the banana holder this size.

I particularly like that the hinge is all plastic so nothing to rust. I haven't traveled with it but I imagine it would stay closed in the backpack since the clasp is secure but opens easily enough.

I am a big fan of reusable containers that look like the food item they are holding; it is so nice to immediately know what is in a container without having to open it. I think it's perfect.

The Tupperware banana keeper is everything the other reviewers say is it. It's huge. Really huge -- bigger than any banana you're likely to find. That means it's challenging to pack in a small lunch box or bag, but it also means the thing holds any banana you're likely to find. It's very sturdy and solidly built, and looks like it will last well. And it does what it says; it very effectively keeps bananas from being smashed when packed in a lunchbox, backpack, etc. And if you think a banana keeper is kind of a dorky idea, consider this: I'm going to have to buy at least one more because my two kids fight over who gets to take it to school every day.

A Kid's Review on November 5, 2010
While it's a sturdy piece of plastic that is of great quality (tupperware, what else do you expect?), I didn't find it as functional. Pro: Holds bananas and probably really large plantains too? I didn't check. Also, it's not round, but slim, so it might pack better. Con: Ultimately, this was WAY too big for my needs. I need something that holds a banana but that can also be packed into a bookbag with other items in it. This took up too much space. I had just expected it to be smaller and was surprised by its size. Perhaps it's personal preference, but no banana I've ever had needs that much space, so I returned it.

I love being able to take a banana to work w/o worrying about it being bumped and bruised. The large size accommodates almost all sizes. It's also helpful when only a part of a banana is eaten; protects the rest of the banana.

OK, folks are right, the size is a bit large, but I'm not sure how this would be avoidable, given the fact that, last time I checked my grocery store, bananas themselves come in all different sizes. The Banana Keeper has held up perfectly to 3 months of daily lugging back and forth from school by my son. If gets banged around in his backpack (as noted, it doesn't really fit in a lunch box), and he has never complained of a bruised or mashed banana. In fact, the bananas are so well preserved, when I found a banana had been left in the keeper for a week-long school vacation (why can't kids empty out their school bags at the start of vacation?), the banana was still appetizing and edible. I would also add a note that the Banana Keeper seems to make it through the dishwasher (top rack) just fine, a nice added piece of hygiene. I would highly recommend the Banana Keeper.

I purchased both the Tupperware and the BananaGuard to keep our bananas bruise free during transit and we much prefer the Tupperware version for several reasons.

The biggest complaint I see about the Tupperware is the size. Granted it looks big, but in reality it does not take up any more space than the BananaGuard, but the thicker mid-section of the Tupperware allows for more variety of bananas to be protected. All the bananas we purchased over the past week have fit into both, but the ones we have this morning ONLY fit in the Tupperware version.

The other bonus for the Tupperware is that my 7 year old daughter finds it much easier to open at lunch at school (yes it fits into her lunch bag). She asks me to not use the BananaGuard as she finds it more difficult to open.

The third reasons I like the Tupperware version is the hinge. They have a 2 piece hinge while the BananaGuard just uses one big mold for both sides and the hinge, using the fact that the plastic bends where the plastic is thin. I do not see that design lasting as long. Tupperware uses two different molds and the two sides snap together at the hinge.

For both, I tend to cut off the top of the stem for a better fit.

Wanted to take bananas to work but being a heavy equipment operator didn't work so well. By the time lunch came around I had banana paste.

I read some reviews that claimed this was too big. Well, I guess those people eat tiny bananas. It is large but, I have yet to find a banana that didn't fit and that is the point. It needs to have room because bananas grow on trees and therefore, are not all the same size.

Very sturdy and looks like it will be around for a long time. Even in the abusive environment that I work in.
