The good news: turbotax is better than the alternatives of (a) spending heap plenty $$ to have a cpa file for you or (b) the old days of paper, pencil, and spreadsheets.

Still, the product gives me the feeling Intuit is not trying very hard to keep up or even clean up some of their long standing issues. I gave a rating of two stars because of that.
Examples are:
- it's now Feb 11, just over a month from (corporate) filing deadline and I _STILL_ can't file. That includes generating the K1's my shareholders need. Why? Because Intuit blandly informs me some of the required forms are not ready. They won't even give an estimate of when that might be.
Yeah, I know some of you guys like to work on your returns on March 14. Not me pal, I've got a business to run and can't afford to manage my time that way.
- when I run the error check it persists in finding entries that need to be made. Those could easily have been part of the interview, or in many cases just filled in with the obvious. Others are not obvious and require some effort to clear. How should I know what to put on Form XXXX, Section 3, line 22a? That's why I bought turbo tax.

So then, my overall impression is that of a mature product which is not being well maintained by Intuit. It could and should be better. They are creating an opening for competitors ...

An Update:
Intuit finally released the forms required for me to file.
Duly error checked and passed I proceeded to filing: the federal return is "pending" and the state (CA) return was rejected. The error message given was "Federal Return must be attached with every state submission ..."
It sure looks like Intuit is using their customers to debug the product: this is the kind of error that ought to have been caught by basic product validation testing.
This gets back to my earlier conclusion: the product could and should be better.

Another update: four days after filing my federal return is still "pending". A trip through phone tree hell and finally got Intuit help on the line. They said they don't know, all the IRS has told them is the return is "pending".
They suggested I contact the IRS and inquire. Well that's just great. Remind me again why I paid $150 (100 fed, 50 state) for turbotax please.
Now I'm stuck: I can wait on a phone line all day for the IRS, who knows what I'll learn from them.
This stuff needs to be worked out BEFORE users try to file their returns.

Update: contacted IRS regarding status of my return. They will not discuss efile issues with individuals, only with efile providers -- like Intuit. But surely Intuit knew this when they referred me to the IRS.
In other words, they gave me the run around.
I deducted another star for poor customer service.
Intuit: are you listening?

Final update: 17 Feb, federal return status changed from pending to accepted. Finally. No explanation about what took so long. Retried filing state return, successful this time.
No doubt both Intuit and the IRS will blame any delays/problems on covid19.
I have been a turbotax user for 25 years, personal and business. This year is the absolute worst I have ever seen (as you might infer from the above log).
Memo to Intuit: the reason so many of us buy your products is to provide some much needed buffering from the IRS and the tax code. You are slipping in that mission.

Wont update in order to file taxes

I got the 2020 turbotax business software for pc download and tried to use it. Apparently it wont update and Turbotax doesn't offer customer support for the software. Sooo.... You are on your own with this. Go to a tax professional or find a software that supports it's users because this is apparently a waste of time and money... I've used turbotax business for years. First time I have had issues like this and not being able to contact customer support for help to walk you through how to fix this is outrageous. I am not asking for tax help, but you should be supporting the actual software you sell.

Edit: They did finally roll out the update to the software, but they didn't notify you when it was live. Their notification vs actual rollout was very far apart.

I had to call support to find out that the program would actually do what it should.
I wanted to e-file for the state return. The program displayed that I MUST e-file for the state of Michigan. When I went to the next screen, it displayed a message that the return could not be e-filed. I tried to print the return, but the program would not let me, as it displayed that Michigan must be e-filed. After a phone call, I learned that I should IGNORE the message and continue. Then the program found errors to correct so it could be e-filed!
The error correction process is also sloppy. The program displays the form and highlights the field that must be corrected. Since a window into the form was displayed, and I could, I made changes. But those changes were not recorded. There is a separate box displayed where the entry must be corrected. So I ask in my total stupidity, why does it allow me to change the form, leading me to believe that I had made the correction? A proper program would FORCE me to make the correction in the separate box, would give me directions to that effect, and would make the form display read only.
I suppose that if you use this program every day, you would get used to those quirks, but I only use it once a year.

1063 Error Code

I've used TT for many many years without issue and have been a promoter of the software to many....until TT2020 personal and business. This 1063 error code is maddening and the Intuit Help Desk, while very professional, nice and willing to spend 1/2 day trying to fix the problem....is worthless. This error issue is enough to seek another tax software provider. Sorry Intuit, this is 100% on you and I am really dissapointed.

Replaced an accountant for tax

TT Biz has been my go-to for five years, replacing an accountant and saving lots. I use it for three sixty-member investment funds, generating tax forms and all K-1's via PDF, which are mailed to each member (180 between the funds) by mid-February each year. Lots of kudos from the members and their accountants. TT Biz lets me be (by far) the first K-1's received each year. Never an audit by the IRS. Highly recommend.

I don't understand why I have an intuit account if every time I buy a product I need to enter all the information again. After a full page about my business I could finally import last years return. Why not start there?

I did decided to buy a dedicated PC since no one makes business tax software for the Mac. This was a quick and easy download from Amazon and it was $40 cheaper than Costco.

We are moving our accounting to the PC and will be getting something other than quickbooks. I don't do cloud accounting so Wave, Mint and those guys are out too. I read the EULA's in case you are wondering why.

Doesn't integrate with TTax 2020, so you need to decide what to re-enter, and where, even with the "Home and Business" version. Also doesn't support some required forms. Worst of all, Help takes you to generic TTax website, which doesn't differentiate between what you're asking about business deductions (e.g., SEP IRA) vs personal Income Taxes. Trying H&R Block this year.
