Got Wrong Version

Like others, I ordered and paid for TurboTax Premier, but the download link installed Basic and the license code for Premier did not work. Will be trying to return this version.

Update: The problem I, and others had with the download giving us Basic and the license code not working MAY be browser related. Here is what happened for me.

The download link would not work at all for me in Firefox. I would click on the button, the screen would flash and nothing else would happen.

In Chrome, the download link worked. It downloaded a file that was named: TurboTax_Premier__State_2019_Tax_Software_Amazon_Exclusive_PC_Download.exe, which, when run, installed a copy of TurboTax to a TurboTax2019 directory. When I activated this program, however, the splash screen said it was Turbotax Basic and it would not accept the registration code I had been given. It uninstalled that program, downloaded a new copy and got the same result.

Finally, In Microsoft Edge, it also downloaded an installer that was named "Premier". However, when running this new program, it still said it was TurboTax Basic. This time, though, it immediately went online and installed updates before giving me the registration dialog. When I entered the registration code, this time it worked and I was told I had successfully registered TurboTax Premier. Now, when I reactivate TurboTax, the splash screed shows "Premier".

So, if your download experience is not working right, try Microsoft Edge. I don't see why the browser should be making a difference, but for me, it did.

Great Software, Ran into Digital Dowload Glitch

Update: 1/7/2020 I went to uninstall the TurboTax 2019 Basic file using the Apps section in Windows Settings. After clicking on TurboTax 2019, I clicked on repair rather than uninstall. The repair function uninstalled the software and re-installed it. When I started it up again, it updated before asking for my activation code (you might have to do it a few times or use Edge for a new install file like another poster recommended). After the update and me entering in my activation code, it finally worked! If you don't want to deal with any of this, buy the disc version (now available) which I should have waited to do!!!!!!!

I have used Turbotax for years and have had no issues with the software itself (star rating is for the software).

I usually buy the CD version from Amazon and have had no issues. However, as of 11/24/19, only the digital download (no CD option) is only being offered for $30 cheaper than what Turbotax has on its own website. The download link supplied by Amazon was for Turbotax Basic, but the license code was for Turbotax Premier. When entering the license code for Premier into Basic, I receive error code 606 and the product will not activate.

Amazon says there is nothing they can do as Turbotax supplied the download. They can only refund me my money (Digital Services & Video Tier 1 if you need to call them).

Turbotax says my activation code is valid for Premier, but that they cannot supply me with the correct software until mid December.

In the future, if Amazon gets the CD version for a similar cost for what I purchased the digital download, I will get a refund for my digital download and order the CD version. If the CD version is more expensive, I will wait until December to get the right software from Turbotax.

Hopefully this will save you from being on the phone with Turbotax and Amazon for 3 hours like me!

Ordered TurboTax Premiere/State on Nov 5. Tried downloading it on Nov 10. The download process took an hour, and I couldn't get the 'prompts to install' which are printed with "How to redeem this item". Failure.

On Nov. 11, tried again. DOWNLOAD appeared to work, but again the .exe file gave no path to any 'prompts to install'. A phone call to AMAZON for help was passed through to a rather disorganized 'software group'. When asked for assistance in installing Turbo Tax, they offered an 'exception for a refund', and promised an email in 3 to 5 days confirming it.

So instead of a working product, I wasted several hours on the keyboard and the telephone to get the news that no effort would be made to make the product functional, and I'm on my own to order the software from another vendor than AMAZON Digital Services LLC.

The downloaded and installed version ended up to be the Basic version and not Premier. The license provided didn't activate the software. Intuit site was not helpful. I could get the proper help from them. I contacted Amazon and they cancelled the order.

Having been with Turbotax for decades, I know what to expect. I buy early when on sale and understand the trade off is a bunch of updates as the software is written. It's Dec 1st and I've definitely purchased software that isn't complete/doesn't exist yet depending on your perspective. For example, the description includes a state download yet it really doesn't exist yet and won't until mid January.

Regardless, it's a good product. About the same UI as other years; no big changes this year and still easy to use. I get an estimate buying early and can refine as the software is finished and more tax information comes in. It also lets me get a jump with all the data entry.

*** This incomplete/under development be included in the description however; very misleading for those unaware. ***

Two bugs in Federal and CA State not working until Jan 03, 2020.

Found two bugs in HSA section.

1. Maximum contribution is shown as $6900/$7900 for 55/55+ which is last years maximum (the comments even note that the max is $7000/$8000).
2. Box 12 W is copied to HSA form as Company/Self pre-tax contribution but only once. If you change or correct the amount on your W2 after initially entering it, the HSA form is never updated and you have to go directly to the forms section and use right-click/override to change the value.

Once again they're selling an incomplete product. They won't have CA state ready until Jan 03, 2020 (latest estimate, already changed from Nov 27, 2019).
