Incomplete Software

I've been using Turbo Tax for many years and have been very pleased in the past. However, I ordered this early release version hoping to do some "what if" scenarios to determine if I need to take any action before the end of the year to minimize my taxes. Unfortunately, this software version release does not allow the entry of retirement income (1099-R). The note that pops up says that the IRS has not determined the method of entry yet and this function will be available by January 15, 2020. This should have been noted in the product description as this makes the software completely useless for my purposes. Unfortunately, this being downloaded software, it is not returnable.

Update 11/15/2019
I just tried opening the software again and there was an update available which I downloaded. Entry for 1099-R data is now available and I was able to run my "what if" scenarios. Looks like they beat their update estimate by 2 months.

Misleading Title

I bought this product on the deal of the day plus a $10 amazon gift card. I use turbo tax online every year. This was my first time using the software. It is just like using the website but this product said it had state in the software. I assumed the purchase of the software included e-filing state returns. IT DOES NOT. You can just fill out, which it pretty much imports all the info from your federal, and still have to pay $20 to efile it. Very misleading until you hit the view more button in the item description. Save your money and use the website and file.

BUYER BEWARE Software Works well like last year BUT VERY DECEPTIVE ABOUT E-FILE CHARGES

BUYER BEWARE!!! I have been a long time Turbo Tax Software Customer. I feel that Inuit and TurboTax have been VERY deceptive of their charges as of late. I was shocked this year to pay not only for the software but $19.99 for state e-file AND an additional $39.99 to "save the earth" by NOT getting a paper check from the IRS and getting my money direct deposited to my bank account.

I had NO IDEA that once you make over $66k they start charging you for State e-file. I was willing to eat this last year and I was on the fence about using Turbo Tax this year because of it. I paid extra on Amazon here to include what I THOUGHT was free state e-file along with my FREE federal tax e-file. BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

I have always seen the "e-file" for free in the past and didn't notice it just shows "e-file" as one of the offerings of this software. Again, it seems deceptive because there is NO INDICATION that they will be charging you extra for any services past initially buying the software.

I did my taxes and got to the end and then all the charges start happening... The same $19.99 for state e-file (Last year was our first time above $66k, so we have never experienced paying and didn't know why). I wasn't happy but wasn't shocked. I got really shocked when I chose what I thought would be the free option of direct deposit of my return (it was free last year) and thought it was the "green" choice.....only it was the "green" choice for TurboTax, as they made money off of me for choosing this option.

I chose the $44.95 audit protection as I always do. I was already expecting to pay for that.

I called TurboTax about these unexpected charges this year. I explained I was a long time TurboTax user and that I was already miffed by the charges last year but was willing to not do something because it was merely $19.99. This year, we lost $19.99 PLUS another $39.99 ON TOP OF PURCHASING THE SOFTWARE ALREADY!!

And, guess what, I ended up only needing standard deductions...so the "DELUXE" version was a waste of my time. I got NOWHERE with customer service. They kept me on for 45 minutes, FORTY FIVE MINUTES....while she typed away to "technical support" as if this is a new problem (HINT: People have been complaining about this for a year or so now). She ended up refunding NONE of my money and offered no incentive for me to want to continue being a customer with Intuit.

My husband is so angry he told me we will NEVER buy another INTUIT product ever again....after this experience with their poor handling of this situation.

Watch out and either use their website first or just BUY ANOTHER TAX SOFTWARE OR USE ANOTHER WEBSITE...

After all was said and done, I could've spent $135 of what I shelled out to TurboTax to a friend who is a tax accountant and gotten better service and helped a person rather than a giant company! NEVER AGAIN.....

I advise, with the new standard deductions at $24K on top of being able to claim your kiddos, to just NOT buy TurboTax and use some other tax software. At least you know it will cost you!

I purchased this software (the PC Download version) on January 2, 2020 mainly to refine my quarterly tax payments as I am retired. I am running Windows 7 64-bit and had no issues downloading and installing the software. I do get a splash screen warning me that Microsoft will end support of Windows 7 soon. That's not a problem. I was able to complete my returns and an now just waiting for all the official forms to come in the mail. On January 3, 2020 I was able to download & complete my State return as it wasn't available until the 3rd of January. No issues at all. You have to go through the process of "printing" your returns in order to specify direct deposit information under the FILE section.

This version required an activation code which I was able to get just before I downloaded the software. If you did not get the 14 character code because you didn't realize you needed one, it's easy to miss if you didn't realize that TurboTax has used codes in the past, but not all the time. Login to Amazon, then:

1) Under Your Account
2) Look Under “Digital content and devices”
3) Click on “Digital games and software”

That will bring up your digital software purchases and find the one for TurboTax 2019. Under it you'll see the License Number (copy and paste it into the TurboTax Installation/Activation window). Better yet, if you store your software on your system someplace, copy the License Number into a text file and store it with the executable.

I use an external drive mapped as drive X: that has a top level folder called Software -> Intuit -> TurboTax2019, TurboTax2018, TurboTax2017, etc ... with the download and license number in the folder. Then if something happens and you have to go back to an earlier version of your OS or you get a new PC and need to run this software again, all the info will be in one place.

My X: drive is mapped to a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device.

I will use this software to estimate both my Federal & State 2020 & 2021 taxes. I use the current year TurboTax program to estimate the next 2 years and save those results with the starting year. That way I don't have to worry about not having all the forms or paying the higher amount when the software is first released in November. The estimate was good enough and when I downloaded the current year on Jan 2, I was rewarded with a cheaper price and only had to wait one day to get my State tax form. I will continue to update the release until just before I file my returns but I am for all practical purposes done with my taxes. If I have to run TT next year, it will be on Windows 8.1 (not 10) and I hope that Intuit releases a version for Linux but I won't hold my breath.
