But I heard horror stories of people blowing up by doing it wrong. So instead of scouring all the conflicting stories on the interwebz I decided to check out Justin's book here.
I'm glad I did because this book laid it all out step by step. The author leaves no stone unturned, and gives great advice every step of the way.
I especially love his "work backwards" method and the info on what kind of turkey is best to buy. And the "reverse water displacement theory" makes complete sense when knowing exactly how much oil to use.
And the best part is that the first turkey I ever fried came out perfectly! I wasn't going to wait til Thanksgiving to fry my first bird. But now I can't wait to show off my skills for the family.
We are now in the month of feasting with Thanksgiving only 3 weeks away. Now is the time most of us home culinary geniuses are planning our holiday menus from appetizers to desserts.
At this time every year, Allstate begins showing the commercial with Dennis Haysbert, one of my favorite actors, where he talks about how many people decide to fry turkeys for Thanksgiving and how many of them end up burning down the garage. Cooking with the threat of eminent destruction hanging over the home chef must be why this form of preparing a turkey is so popular with men.
I don't know if fried turkey is popular in other parts of the U.S., but it's always a popular alternative for the Thanksgiving bird here in Texas and in the rest of the South. Both my brothers always fry the turkey, but the process is rather intimidating to anyone who hasn't attempted it before.
So, today, I'm reviewing this book with a really long title that's written by Justin Lee.
This little book gives very clear, specific instructions on how to fry a turkey -- safely. Even better, the book contains a link to step-by-step instructional videos you can download as a bonus of buying the book. Also, for your entertainment pleasure, the author includes links to some turkey-frying escapades that have gone viral on YouTube.
The author covers everything you need to know: safety, equipment, preparation, the frying process, and clean up. More importantly, he removes the intimidation factor and makes the reader think that he can do this. So what are you waiting for? Grab a copy today and start planning your holiday dinner.
Thanks for writing the best book I have seen on frying Turkeys! He even has a really cool website to help you out.
I really found all the information extremely useful. The book itself was well crafted with the links to the videos and in its presentation of the information, which it was full of. Even though it was full of information, the narrative was far from dry and was more importantly detailed deeper than most books. I no longer have a deep ingrained fear of deep frying a turkey and am looking forward to doing it this holiday season.
The only drawback I found was that this book was best read on a Mac or PC as opposed to the Kindle simply for the online access needed for the "extras". Still, I consider these "extras" as just that, and that's why I still gave it 5 stars!
Justin is incredibly thorough. He tells you some options for buying a deep fryer, what type of turkeys work best, how to brine it, how to put it into the fryer, how long to cook it, and supplies unlimited information to answer any possible questions you would have about doing this.
With the holidays coming up, purchase this book. He has done a fabulous job of addressing every area of deep frying a turkey and entertains you as well.
It is a short excellent book and easy to read. Really covers it topic well.
I got the Kindle version the night before Thanksgiving. Even at that point it prevented me from making several errors. Had I read it before I could have been better prepared. I had to make some compromises. I now understand the weaknesses of my compromises. Still, with its help my first attempt came out very good.
