This book could be scary for some - those stuck in past, reminiscing on how things used to be. This book can be slightly jarring. The world has changed, and there is no turning back. This book is a wakeup call. Yet, as scary as that message is, Gregg Braden offers hope, a silver lining.
I've had the opportunity to meet Mr. Braden and he's very authentic, someone you genuinely want to know more about, to soak in his wisdom.
***Note: the book gets a little repetitive from his previous works and a lot of 2012 literature, but it's definitely worth sticking it out.
This book is extremely informative, thought provoking and helpful in answering so many questions we are facing in today's world.
As the author states, "These are no ordinary times", and so we can't look to ordinary solutions to solve some of the most difficult issues, that being on a personal, and global level. I feel Gregg Braden's book has guided me through many personal inquiries, to help me find my own answers. He does so in an honest and positive way. I love how he incorporates his person experiences and stories to demonstrate a point. After reading "The Turning Point", I realized despite much of my own resistance, it's time for me to start thinking differently about myself, my life and my relationship to everything and everyone around me.
Thank you for this book! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for profound ways to transition through these intense times.
In his new book, “The Turning Point: Creating Resilience in a Time of Extremes”, Gregg Braden writes, “Never in the modern world have we attempted to meet the growing needs of so many people through shrinking supplies of so few resources, with climate change supercharging the demand.”
OK, I’m really scared now. Fortunately, Braden does an excellent job in explaining these huge planetary problems in language an average person, like me, can understand. I liked how Braden put into perspective the turbulent times we are living in. “For 11,500 years or so,” he writes, “there had been fewer than 500 million people on the planet. To put this into perspective, it means that during this time the number of people being sustained by the resources of our planet was less than half the number now living in India today.”
Rather than being a doomsday picture, Turning Point is a book of hope. Braden contends that our ancestors have faced equally challenging problems, and through resilience and innovation came out better on the other side. We can do that too. “We humans have a history of embracing change and an amazing track record for successfully turning the extremes of crisis into transformation,” the author says. “Our willingness to think differently about ourselves and the world will be the key to the success of our journey.”
I have read other books by Gregg Braden, and found them to be very insightful. This one is no different.Read more ›
