The Ear Force XC1 enhances your Xbox LIVE gaming experience, allowing you to communicate and strategize with your teammates more comfortably and more accurately than a standard headset.
Unlike other communicator headsets, the XC1 incorporates a unique slotted ear cup design that lifts the speaker off of your ear and lets in the external game sound, so you can hear the game with both ears while listening to chat at the same time. This unique design helps assure you’ll never miss out on critical communication messages while getting the full impact of the game sound.
At a Glance
- Slotted ear cup design allows you to hear non-gaming sounds
- In-line chat volume control
- Hear your own voice as you chat with Microphone Monitor
- Designed specifically for Xbox 360
Slotted ear cup design allows sound to come in the ear that’s covered so you can hear what’s going on around you as you chat.
Total Control Over Sound
Hear what you want, when you want with in-line chat volume control. Quickly turn the sound of the people you’re chatting with up and down to your liking. The choice is yours.
Voice Level Recognition
Know how people tend to scream when wearing headphones? With Microphone Monitor, now you can hear your voice in your headset so you’re not that person.
Turtle Beach Audio Advantage
The combination of the one ear cup communicator and the slotted design of that ear cup allows non-gaming sound to enter both your covered and uncovered ear so you can hear what’s going on around you while simultaneously not missing any of the game audio coming through the headset speaker.

Also, I like to wear these on my right ear, although every mic pic always shows them on people's left ears. No problem because it is adjustable for either or. Wish it was cheaper than $25, but then again, I won't have to wait for Xbox live communicator and subscription packs to go on sale to always replace the cheap mics. Every other Xbox mic I have had has either quit working because of faulty wires or because of the cheap connector. This one has a solid connector that did not have to be moved around to get rid of static. The volume / mute button portion is about midway down the wire with a clip and again is quality construction.
I'm not one to spend money on accessories, especially ones that come free with the device, but this was worth it. Like they say about beds, if you're going to be using it a lot, might as well spend for the quality stuff, I'm sure my ear agrees.
Have any questions I'd be glad to answer. Will definately be buying a second one for my son.
*Update*: I ordered a replacement headset and it seems to work fine I will give an update after a month of usage
*Update 2*: So I got my second headset and its been around two months of usage and guess what it broke AGAIN! I was starting to like this headset but it broke. I don't understand I thought turtle beaches are made to last for a long time.
I'm kind of annoyed with the volume adjuster. The volume adjuster seems to turn down the volume so easily it just brushes against my shirt and my volume's gone...this happens very often and I don't know why.
The only real issue with the headset is the two cutaways on the earpiece. I guess they're selling it as "be able to hear the game while you talk". Well..I hear the game, my fan, my dog, my air conditioner, cars passing by etc etc etc.... The one thing I have difficulty hearing sometimes is the people I'm trying to talk to. I really don't see why they put the big holes in the earpiece...I wish I could just hear the speaker, I mean, the whole reason I have this big round plastic piece strapped around my ear is to hear my xbox live party...not everything around me.
LONG REVIEW: When I went looking for a new wired headset for XBox Live (I have surround sound, so I didn't need a set with built-in speakers), the Turtle Beach brand and fairly reasonable price caught my attention. Then, I started reading reviews. It seems about 33% to 50% of people who bought these headsets claimed they stopped working within days or weeks. I decided to tempt fate (I mean, everything breaks at some point) and fall back on the one-year warranty that all electronics have.
Over a full month later, I can safely report the XC1 is still fighting the good fight. I have had no problems with it whatsoever.
The headset itself is rather nice. The headrest is firm and flexible, with a faux-leather pad so the top of your head doesn't get sore and a grippy foam pad on the non-speaker side to keep it from falling off your head. The ear cup is generously large and should do any age range's ears fine as long as you're not an elephant; I particularly like the cup's padding which is cloth instead of faux leather. Sound quality is decent, a step up from the Microsoft base model. The really nice feature is the adjustable mic, which holds whatever shape you feel like putting it in, and rotates to various positions, including backwards, to make it a left-ear or right-ear design as needed. The cord is a decent length, has a standard volume and mute/on toggle, capped off by a jack that will fit the 360 controller, with or without the text pad attachment.
So what's holding me back from five stars? Three little things.
