Top customer reviews
SOUND - I brought these to use mainly for Call of Duty, but I find myself using them for all my other games as well. For Call of Duty, I was able to hear footsteps clearly but it did take trying out the different surround angles to help me to be able to better pinpoint where they were comming from. These headsets are loud. I have the PS4 settings to max and then control the volume with the inline audio control and I have not gone past 50% volume. I never used a gaming headset before and these sound great to me. No one has complained about the mic, so I assume that it is just as good.
COMFORT - These are very light and can be worn for long periods of time.
OVERALL - If you are looking for a gaming headset for the PS3 or PS4 and don't want to spend $200+, then I would say give these a try.
The Good: Light Weight, Microphone is clear or at least what my team says, separate volume control for game and chat, equalizer and speaker positioning.
The Bad: It feels cheap because of the plastic build.
The Built: mostly made out of plastic and yes it feels cheap. The whole weight will rest on the top of your head and the cup doesn’t hug your ears.
Sound Quality – With the digital output the sound is better and with its mini amplifier/enhancer the sound is more beefy. Wired also means that the sound is more constant compared to wireless that can be interfered. I usually play MW3 and yes footsteps are louder but so does the other sound. You still have to know the map and how the floor should sound when someone is stepping on it or else it will be hard to distinguish footsteps from the other sounds.
Volume rocker: it has game and chat volume control. It also has the mic mute sliding on/off switch.
Mini Enhancer: Equalizer, speaker positioning, surround, main volume knob and on/off switch. The only gripe on this one is that you wouldn't know what preset are you on in the Equalizer and positioning because you just cycle through the settings. I don’t think it remembers the last setting you are on if you turn off PS3 or the headset.
The Verdict – The feel of the headset is cheap and it’s mostly made out of plastic but the sound quality is very good. For the price you are mainly paying for the DSS2 attachment that can amplify any headphones (well it seems like it). I would recommend this headset because my average score improved and microphone wouldn't kill the ears of your teammates.
But then I realized that was just one game. Playing Call of Duty Black Ops II and Call of Duty Ghost. The sound is perfect. Oh and the dobly digital surround sound is amazing in FPS game. Can not tell you how many times I actually turned around because I heard something behind me, not realizing it was just in the game.
Its also great with watching bluray movies.
CONS: A few issues, even though they do not really take away from the 5 star rating, they are there. The set up is kind of combersome with all the long freakin cables, connecting the optical cable AND the USB cable. Not to mention trying to find the perfect surround sound setting and equalizer setting with no screen or display. You just have to keep pressing the 2 settings buttons until you find the right sound. Also I notice I usually keep the surround sound setting the same but I have changed up the equalizer setting depending on if I am watching a movie or a game. It has no way to save presets.
And it ONLY supports dolby digital... does not support DTS. Most of my movies are DTS surround sound which means I have to disable surround sound for it sound any good. And doing that basically turns it into a normal stereo headset. Its an amazing stereo headset but its still JUST a stereo headset.
But I did not buy this for the movies, I bought it for the gaming and it delivers. Again, it does work for PS3 and PS4. In fact, it will work with ANY device that has a optical output. And the price was great !!!! Paid $79 and it sounds like one of the $200 headsets. Must have !
