Turtle Wax Liquid Clay Bar is a wonderful product that is greatly misunderstood.

What is LCB? To understand the liquid clay bar, you have to know that traditional car waxes contain soft polishing agents which clean the paint surface when you apply and buff out the wax. These polishing compounds are on of the reasons that traditional car wax leaves white residues everywhere and is a nuisance to apply.

In the ICE system, Turtle wax separated the cleaning function from the shine/protection function. The TW Ice polish is a pure polish, and therefore LCB does the heavy work of cleaning and prepping the surface for polishing. It is not a replacement for a clay bar, it is a superb pre wax cleaner, that is easy to use and effective.

Liquid clay bar is a three phase liquid contains strong cleaning agents, lubricants and soft clay polishing agents. The combination of the cleaning agents and lubricants allows the LCB to strip off the old finish, remove embedded dirt that is stuck into the paint (e.g road grime, brake dust, tree sap etc.), and polish out minor swirls and scratches. Stuck on Water resistant dirt is what causes the finish to become dull and feel gritty.

The polishing agents in LCB are much softer that what you would find in dedicated scratch and swirl remover. Interestingly, the polishing agents are gentle enough that you can use LCB to polish out cloudiness from plastic headlight lenses. Generally a car's finish only needs to be deep cleaned every few months, as the first coat of wax applied after cleaning with LCB will bond tightly, and tends to prevent dirt from getting stuck on the finish.

This product must be applied to the vehicle while it is wet. The directions on the bottle do not say this. I used it the first time when the vehicle was dry and it did leave a thin film behind. When I used it when the vehicle was wet I had excellent results. Better than the clay bar and alot quicker. If the vehicle isn't really dirty just wet the car really good and then use the clay liquid. After you do this I like to wash the car just in case there is a film left. Then apply your favorite wax. Remember the clay liquid removes your previous wax layer you must wax after if you want protection.

Let me qualify this by saying that I'm not an expert in car detailing. However, I found that this product did an amazing job for my purposes. I have a 1999 Olds Intrigue that had a bumper that was looking very dull, and numerous small scrapes, etc. on the doors. I had read on a car blog that a rubbing compound might help with the dull, oxidized bumper. When I saw this product, I thought that it might provide similar results, so I tried it. Since some of the negative results/reviews on here may have to do with technique, I'll share how I got my positive results. Concerning the bumper, I wet the sponge thoroughly with the product, and, working on a small space at a time, rubbed it back and forth on the bumper. I applied pressure with both hands and rubbed until it made a squeaking noise. Then, I rinsed it with a wet paper towel, dried it with a paper towel and repeated the rinsing/drying, making sure the residue was gone. The results took me by surprise to be honest. That thing was shiny again after 3-4 years of looking dull. To heighten the results, I applied some Eagle One nanowax with a microfiber cloth. It looked almost new again. I repeated this technique on the door scratches. If it weren't for the slight remaining dents I could see in the light reflection, you'd think the area was unscathed. It was certainly repaired to my satisfaction and above. Though car finish concerns are probably unique to each car, from my experience I would highly recommend this product and process to correct similar problems.

There's nothing special about this stuff, other than it is fairly easy to use. It's a fine abrasive cleaner mixed with soap. It doesn't clean like a clay bar. The abrasive can be hard to rinse completely off. Not worth the time, IMO. Instead, go with a real cleaner/polish like Meguiars #7 or a real clay bar.

I agree with another reviewer, this product is misunderstood. Many years ago I bought the whole ICE system = Clay bar, Liquid Clay bar, Lubricant and "wax". I followed the directions the first time, learned from that and changed how I clean and protect my car(s) once a year; and have only consumed the clay bar so far. I have a Prius, and now 2 of them. The way I ended up using the products are as follows: 1) Wash the car and towel dry to get most of the dirt and gunk off; 2) clay bar without lubricant -- true uses up the clay bar quicker, but it really pulls the stuff up more easily this way; 3) Apply the Liquid clay bar as a cleaner/polish/wash for the residual clay stuck to the car; 4) wash again with car wash and towel dry thoroughly, then let it air dry for a while; 5) apply the Ice liquid wax. This takes a good part of the day since you go over the whole car 8 times, but the results are amazing and last a whole year. I found using the lubricant required more work for the clay bar to be effective, more rubbing for embedded stuff. I found that applying the Liquid Clay Bar after rubbing down the whole car with the solid clay bar was more effective at removing the residual clay from the surface than just washing alone. The two together really gets the car spectacularly clean for the advanced polymer formula liquid wax, so nothing is waxed over. The result is a showroom new shine/finish. People think I got a new car. Four stars because it isn't necessarily enough by itself, but then, neither is the car wash product, or the solid clay bar.
