Classic music videos and exclusive interviews with one of America's top rock bands of the '60s. Includes Happy Together
Proving that the Turtles were as vital to '60s pop as many better-known bands, this delightful 1991 documentary is blessed by the lively personalities of Turtles vocalists Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan (a.k.a. "Flo & Eddie"), whose anecdotes (including memorable encounters with Bob Dylan and the Beatles) are as entertaining as the group's enduring music. Interviews with bandmates reveal that the Turtles were genuinely "Happy Together," enjoying their popularity without the ego hassles that plague so many bands. It wasn't all fun and games, but even the "Lawsuits" chapter provides a hilarious primer on the hazards of rock & roll. Best of all, the Turtles' hits (including "She's My Girl," "Elenore," and many more) are seamlessly combined with rare concert footage, TV appearances, and promotional films. For veteran fans and appreciative latecomers, this DVD is a joy to behold and includes a "songs only" feature that's handy for subsequent viewings. --Jeff ShannonSee all Editorial Reviews

Hermans Hermits and Spanky & Our Gang as I remember.
I love how the original members explain their start and unbelievable unexpected propelling into mainstream rock & roll acceptance then when they really were a bunch of geeky, frumpy local southern California kids in highschool who grew up together like the rest of us then, and simply enjoyed getting together to make music, and everything that happened to them was literally by chance & luck along the way before they even realized what was happening. I like the Tom Jones tour bus matter too!
I especially like the candid explanation about how the Beatles' vision and influence of the early 60's was thought of by them and many of us here in the States, and then seeing one Turtles band member when finally seeing the "real Beatles" in a UK tour a few years later, became so upset seeing what he visioned of the Beatles (his heroes of sorts) to really be a group of UK rockers messed up on drugs & alcohol and wiped out nightly at a local UK nightclub the Turtles would play at on the tour. It affected one Turtles' band member so much seeing this side of the Beatles, he walked out after a few days playing the gig. I have always wondered if there was no British Invasion in the 60's, where US rock music would have gone? Because due to the British Invasion, is where the influx of drugs into US culture initially was supplied from and the rest is history...
Excellent 90 minutes of pure nostalgic fun and excitement of this American group of the most unexpected, unlikely and un-rock-like fellows who made some lasting music that is still very enjoyable today. Unbelievable vocal abilities and instrument ability by each member which also actually gave way to other 60's groups who built on them and what they did.
"And who believes that my wildest dreams and my craziest schemes will come true? You baby, nobody but you." Where are the songs today that can pack that much simple emotion in so few words, with a tune that makes you want to smile and sing along?
This DVD shows a band that has had its share of hard times and good times, and somehow seem to have retained a sense of humor about it all. Where was Al Nichol, the lead guitarist? I would like to have heard more about their song arrangements etc.
That aside, five stars for a good time, good vibe and good memories.
Take notes during the manager story. You'll need them.
used product in great condition.
the turtles set the trend for 60's American bands.
the ups and downs, fame and a little fortune.
almost a forgotten 1960's icon band.
(and still going today!)
I would recommend to other music buffs.
