This was the book we landed on for our 3, almost 4-year old when she started asking questions about God. We’re got a late start on it so read 2 pages a day until we got caught on up on the 15th. I cannot begin to tell you how fulfilling it has been doing her advent calendar this way instead- we do the reading before the gift surprise each morning, and now all the Christmas symbolism we're seeing lit up and decorated throughout the the season is being talked about daily. The elves on the shelf have become metaphors for angels as messengers to God/Santa.. Christmas lights, stars, candles, nativity scenes, etc..
Our daughter is sweet anyway, but I feel she's been extra thoughtful with this new context in which she’s viewing things bigger than herself. The stories are a fun way to revisit my forgetful ignorance of Bible stories, having not really been one for organized religion, but respect for those who do while bridging the gap in a translatable way when posing questions I was pondering for our family and how we wanted to share the content with our child.
We may even bring lent back into our lives as we prepare for Easter this year. 😇

A beautiful new family tradition to start!

This is another fantastic text from Glenys Nellist! It is the perfect new Advent family tradition. Each day has a rhyming text excerpt in the "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" style, scripture reading, devotion, and prayer, accompanied by a beautiful illustration. The devotions help the reader to make the Christmas story come alive in their own current, modern day. It speaks of things families might do to prepare for the holiday and reflects on learning that has taken place along the way in the text, bringing the reader up close and personal to the main events and also applying all that it means to everyday life. I so look forward to sharing this with my family this Advent season!
